#14 Buffs Split Saturday Action, Hand #1 Angelo State Their First Loss

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The #14 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M fell in walkoff fashion for the second straight day before responding in the nightcap to hand the top-ranked Angelo State Rams their first loss of the season at Foster Field in Lone Star Conference action.
 
The Buffs and Rams conclude their weekend series on Sunday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Foster Field.

GAME ONE RECAP:
The Buffs jumped on the board first in the top of the first inning as Clay Koelzer doubled to the gap in right center to score Cade Engle for the 1-0 lead. ASU responded in the home half of the second as Justin Lee scored from third with two outs on a rundown play to tie the game at 1-1.
 
WT retook the lead in the top of the third inning as Keone Givens singled down the right field line to start the frame followed by a Cade Engle bomb to left at 3-1. Angelo answered again in the home half as they took advantage of a WT error in the outfield with one out to cut the lead to 3-2.
 
The Buffs added to their lead in the top of the fourth as Izaiah Madrid connected on a ground-rule double into the bullpen in left for the 4-2 lead. WT added to their lead again in the sixth as Givens layed down a squeeze to score Justin Martinez with one out for the 5-2 lead.
 
Angelo responded in the home half of the sixth with a Riley Peterson RBI walk with the bases loaded and one out followed by a Tyler Mendoza RBI fielder's choice groundout and another rundown situation where Lee scored to make it 5-5. The Rams ended the game in the bottom of the seventh as Nick Seginowich lifted a three-run walkoff shot to left field for the 8-5 win.
 
Noah Bartlett picked up the loss (1-1) on the mound for the Buffs, allowing three runs on two hits with one walk and two strikeouts over the last 1.1 innings of action.
 
GAME TWO RECAP:
The Buffs got on the board in the top of the third inning as Kyle Moos singled to right field with two outs to plate Koelzer and make it 1-0. The Buffs exploded for six runs on four hits in the top of the fifth inning as Caleb Flores singled to right center to drive in a pair followed two batters later by a Madrid grand slam to left field for the 7-0 lead.
 
Angelo responded in the home half of the frame as Brad Mathiowetz singled to right with two on and no outs to score Parker Bramlett followed later in the inning by a Seginowich RBI single to right center to make it 7-2. The Buffs added an insurance run in the top of the seventh as Givens squeezed home Darius Carter for the 8-2 lead. 
 
Chandler Dean picked up the win (3-0) on the mound for WT, allowing two runs on six hits with two walks and nine strikeouts in the complete game victory.
