CANYON, Texas - Dhanushka Sandaruwan was one of five West Texas A&M student-athletes to compete at the Great American Conference Last Chance on Saturday in Norman, Okla. where he recorded the fourth-best long jump mark in school history.
Sandaruwan moved up the national rankings in the long jump as the senior jumped 24-4.5 (7.47m) to finish first. That is fourth-best mark in school history and 9th in the nation this season.
Tyler Pickens finished first in the shot put with a seasonal best mark of 54-2.75 (16.53m). That is just outside the all-time Top 10 but ranks him 31
st in the nation.
Desmond Aryee ran 6.78 in the men's 60-meter dash to finish first the prelims. That ties his seasonal best and is the fourth-fastest time in school history.
Jahmaal Wilson also competed in the 60-meter hurdles running 8.34 in the prelims.
Brooke Urban finished fourth in the women's high jump with a clearance of 5-1.75 (1.57m) on her third attempt.
WT will compete at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on March 13-14.
