Sansing Breaks 400-Meter School Record, Buffs Finish 19th at NCAA DII Indoor Championships

PITTSBURG, Kan. – 
West Texas A&M finished 19that the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships with 13 points after earning seven All-American honors on the final day of competition at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kan. The Buffs finished in the Top 20 at the national meet for the third time in four years.

Quinton Sansing had one of the best performances in program history earning two All-American honors including a third-place finish in the 400-meters. The sophomore finished second in Heat 2 running 46.91 to shatter his own school record and become the first Buff to run under 47 seconds in the quarter. He came back to anchor the 4x400-meter relay of Nicolai Hartling, William Frobe and Theo Piniau to a seventh-place finish running 3:11.34, just shy of breaking the program record set back at the indoor championships in 2015. 

Abraham Seaneke earned All-American honors for the second time during the championships with a seventh-place finish in the triple jump. The senior had his best mark of the competition come on his fourth attempt with a leap of 50-1.25 (15.27m) to earn All-Americans honors for the second time in the event indoors. 

Lorenzo Johnson earned All-American honors in the 60-meter hurdles for the second time in his career with an eighth-place finish running 8.14 in the final out of Lane 8.

The Buffs will now turn their attention to the outdoor season that begins on March 14 in Abilene, Texas at the Wes Kittley Invite & Multi.

West Texas A&M's Abraham Seaneke finished eighth in the men's long jump to earn All-American honors at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday afternoon in Pittsburg, Kan. He becomes the first Buff to earn All-American honors in the event since Paul Alongo finished seventh in 2014.

The senior's best mark of the competition came on his first attempt with a leap of 24-4.5 (7.43m) while also jumping over 7.30 meters on three different occasions. His mark is the fourth-best mark in program history as the Kokrobite, Ghana native now owns four of the top five all-time marks in the event.

Lorenzo Johnson qualified for the final in the 60-meter hurdles after finishing sixth in his heat running 8.11. Junior Tyrin Lewis just missed out on joining his teammate after running 8.15 in the first heat. 

Quinton Sansing finished with the fifth-fastest time in the 400-meter running 47.39 to secure his spot in Saturday's final. The sophomore used a strong surge over the final 100 meters to pass Northwest Missouri State's Omar Austin and Ashland's Channing Phillips to win the heat. He also competed in the 200-meter dash where he finished 13thin 21.69.
