Buffs Head to Dallas for Saturday Lone Star Conference Action

CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M men's soccer team (5-5-1, 1-3-1 LSC) moves forward as they set out to face Dallas Baptist (2-11-1, 0-6-1 LSC) on Saturday, Oct. 26.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT at Patriot Soccer Field in Dallas, Texas. 
 
SCOUTING DALLAS BAPTIST
The Dallas Baptist Patriots hold a 2-11-1 record after falling 4-1 to Eastern New Mexico on Friday morning in Lone Star Conference action.  DBU is now 0-6-1 in conference.
 
DBU averages 1.31 goals per game on 10.0 shots per game for .131 shot percentage.  Seven Patriots have score this season led by junior Macias Jonathan.  The Duncanville, Texas native tallies a team-high 12 points with five goals.  
 
Tristen Olvera has logged 1022:26 minutes for DBU as the senior recorded 11 starts with 33 saves for a .550 save percentage.  Olvera compiles a 2.38 goals against average. 
 
Chip Butchik is in his fourth season as the men's head soccer coach at Dallas Baptist.  In 2017, Dutchik lead the Patriots to seven wins for their second highest win total since the program returned to DBU in 2012. 
 
THE SERIES
Saturday's match marks the 12th meeting between the Buffs and Patriots since the series start in 1992.  WT leads DBU 11-0 in the all-time series after the Buffs walked away with a 6-0 victory at The Pitch on Oct. 20, 2018.  
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Buffs fell in a 4-0 shutout to St. Edward's on Thursday afternoon.  Eight WT players recorded shots in the match led by Francesco D'Aulerio with two shots, each of them on frame.  Alexander Vencel finished the day with six saves on 16 shots.    
 
COACH LAUFFER
Butch Lauffer is in his 29th season as the head men's soccer coach at WT.  Lauffer is the longest tenured coach in WTAMU history in an acclaimed career starting in 1991.  The Texas Christian alum led the Buffs to 17 victories last season for one of the best seasons in program history, setting a new record for most wins in a single season. With the Buffs, Lauffer registers a 338-153-38 (.676) record with the men's team and a 528-220-55 (.693) overall record at WT.
 
AROUND THE LONE STAR
Midwestern State leads the Lone Star Conference for the third consecutive week with a 5-0 conference record (11-1 overall), moving up to fifth in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Polls.  St. Mary's (10-2-1, 5-1 LSC) follows moving up to 16th in the national-rankings after upsetting Texas A&M International in a Top-20 matchup last week.  St. Edward's moved up to stand third in the conference after defeating WT 4-0 on Thursday.  The Hilltoppers, now 4-1-1 in conference (5-6-2 overall), close out the the LSC top-three. 
 
BUFF LEADERS
Seven Buffs have scored this season led by Kenny Brown with a team-high eight points.  The sophomore has recorded four goals for WT, including two game-winners.  Stefan Andjelic has tallied three goals for WT while Jean-Luc Ramdin follows with two.
 
PROTECT THE NET
The Buffs register a .754 team save percentage to stand fourth in the Lone Star Conference and 69th in Division II.  Alexander Vencel logged eight starts between the pipes for WT with three victories, including two shutouts.  The junior ranks second in the conference as he averages 5.0 saves per game which is second in the conference.

WT will return to Canyon for the final two home games of the regular season as the Buffs host #5 Midwestern State and Oklahoma Christian.  The Buffs will face the Mustangs on Thursday, Oct. 31, before going head-to-head with Oklahoma Christian on Saturday, Nov. 2, at The Pitch.
