Big Third Inning Lifts #23 West Texas A&M to a Series Split with Rival Angelo State

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M senior Luis Amaro connected on a pair of homeruns and drove in five RBI as the #23 Buffs plated 15 runs in the bottom of the third inning on their way to a 19-9 run-rule victory over the rival Rams of Angelo State on Sunday afternoon in the finale to split the four-game weekend series at Wilder Park in Canyon.

The Buffs open Lone Star Conference action next weekend as they host the rival Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico in a four-game series starting on Friday night with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. at Wilder Park in Canyon.

THE BASICS:
- Score: #23 West Texas A&M 19. Angelo State 9 (7 Innings)
- Records: WT (18-7) / ASU (19-7)
- Location: Canyon, Texas
- Venue: Wilder Park

HOW IT HAPPENENED:
The Rams got on the board first as Jacob Boston singled to left center field to drive in a run followed later in the inning by a three-run homerun down the left field line by Trevor Moses for the early 3-0 lead. The Buffs responded in the home half of the inning as Luis Amaro connected on a two-run blast the other way to left center to cut the lead to 4-2.

WT put the game out of reach in the bottom of the third inning as they batted around twice and sent 18 hitters to the plate and scored 15 runs on 14 hits highlighted by a leadoff double by Amaro who lifted a three-run homerun to left later in the inning to make it 17-4. WT starter Darin Cook gave way to Tate Huebner to start the sixth as ASU cut into the lead with a Mitch Henshaw double to center field with no outs to score Parker Bramlett followed later in the inning by a Johnathan Soberanes sac fly to left field to make it 19-6 as Dominic Yearego entered from the bullpen. Angelo plated another run on an errant throw by the Buffs followed by RBI singles from Joe Scott Pace and Moses to make it 19-9.
