Suka Van Gurp long ball for the 2-0 lead. WT added to their lead in the top of the third inning as
Kourtney Coveney drove in
Alyx Cordell who tripled earlier in the frame at 3-1, the Lady Buffs broke the game open in the top of the fourth with seven runs highlighted by another Van Gurp bomb to make it 10-2.
Â
The Mustangs wouldn't go down without a fight as they took advantage of errors by the Lady Buffs to plate eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 14-12, WT responded in the top of the sixth as Hardin singled to left field to drive in
Amy Reynolds to make it 15-12. WNMU cut into the lead again in the home half of the sixth inning with a two-run single with two outs to cut the lead to 15-14.
Â
Stevie McLemore added to the Lady Buff lead in the top of the seventh with a two-run single with the bases loaded to extend the WT lead to 17-14, that's all that the Lady Buffs would need as McLemore closed out the last frame for the win and the LSC weekend series sweep.
Â
Coveney picked up the win in the circle (1-0) for the Lady Buffs while McLemore registered her first career save.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
The two teams traded zeroes in the first three innings before McLemore continued her big weekend with the sophomore's fifth homerun of the series, a three-run bomb down the left field line for the 3-0 lead. The Mustangs responded in the home half of the sixth with an RBI groundout to the circle to cut the lead to 3-1.
Â
McLemore went the distance in the circle as the Phoenix native moved to 2-1 on the season, allowing one run (unearned) on five hits with no walks and two strikeouts in the complete game win.
