Big First Inning Lifts Lubbock Christian Past #10 West Texas A&M, 5-2

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lady Chaps of Lubbock Christian capitalized on a pair of early WT errors to plate five runs in the home half of the first inning as they topped the #10 Lady Buffs 5-2 on Tuesday night in South Central Regional action at PlainsCapital Park in Lubbock, Texas.

The Lady Buffs return to the friendly confines of Schaeffer Park this weekend as they begin Lone Star Conference action against the TexAnns of Tarleton State in a three-game series for #TatumTough Strike Out Cancer Weekend starting on Friday night at 6 p.m.

THE BASICS:
- Score: Lubbock Christian 5, #10 West Texas A&M 2
- Records: WT (11-2) / LCU (10-4)
- Location: Lubbock, Texas
- Venue: PlainsCapital Park

HOW IT HAPPENENED:
The Lady Chaps got on the board first in the home half of the first inning as a pair of infield singles along with a WT throwing error plated the first run with no outs followed later in the inning by a KL Lopez-Lui RBI single to right to make it 2-0. LCU wasn't done yet as Sara Ralston lined a three-run homer to right center to make it 5-0.

LCU looked to add to their lead in the bottom of the third as Morgan Dufour drew a lead off wall before Suka Van Gurp fielded a ball up the middle and stepped on second followed by a strong throw to Kylee Moore at first to turn the double play and end the threat.

WT got on the board in the top of the sixth inning as Van Gurp crushed a solo shot to center field with one out followed two batters later by an Ashley Hardin solo shot the other way to right center to cut the lead to 5-2. Hardin's homerun gives the senior 61 for her career to sit just one behind Renee Erwin (62) for the most in Lady Buff history.

Halbert picked up the loss (6-1) in the circle for the Lady Buffs, giving up five runs (five earned) on six hits with three walks and six strikeouts in the complete game loss.
