CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M senior right hander
Kilee Halbert registered one of the biggest outings of her career on Friday night as the Dalhart native allowed just one hit with nine strikeouts as the #9 Lady Buffs topped Tarleton State in game one of a Lone Star Conference series at Schaeffer Park, 2-0.
The Lady Buffs and TexAnns return to action on Saturday afternoon as they conclude their weekend series with first pitch of a doubleheader set for 1 p.m. in Canyon.
THE BASICS:
- Score: #9 West Texas A&M 2, Tarleton State 0
- Records: WT (12-2, 1-0 LSC) / TSU (15-4, 3-4 LSC)
- Location: Canyon, Texas
- Venue: Schaeffer Park
HOW IT HAPPENENED:
The Lady Buffs looked to get on the board early in the game as they loaded the bases in both the first and second inning but couldn't come away with the big swing as the two teams headed to the third tied at 0-0. Halbert was locked in all night as the senior allowed her only hit of the night in controversial fashion on a ball down the right field line that was called fair for a Georgia Capell but the senior responded with a pair of strikeout and a grounder to end the inning.
WT got on the board in the home half of fourth inning as
Shanna McBroom led off the frame with a solo bomb to left center field on the second pitch that the sophomore saw in the at-bat, the Lady Buffs weren't done yet as they added an insurance run in the fifth with a
Kylee Moore solo homerun the opposite way to left center for the 2-0 lead.
That was more than enough for Halbert as she only allowed one base runner over the last two innings while striking out a pair during those frames for the win. She moved to 7-1 on the season, allowing no runs on one hit with three walks and nine strikeouts on just 96 pitches.
