#15 Buffs Head to Portales for the 2018 Regular Season Finale

CANYON, Texas –
 The #15 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M wrap-up the 2018 regular season on the road on Saturday afternoon as they carry a five-match win streak to Portales, New Mexico to take on the rival Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico at 1 p.m. CT.
 
EASTERN NEW MEXICO
The Greyhounds enter the weekend with an overall record of 8-7-2 with a 6-5-2 mark in Heartland Conference action following a 2-1 loss to Lubbock Christian on Thursday night in Portales.
 
ENMU is led offensively by Aderi Arthur-Dede with seven goals and two assists for 16 points. The Hounds average 1.94 goals per game on 238 total shots with 102 of those falling on goal. Dalton Ross is 2-2-2 in goal for ENMU, allowing 16 goals with 31 saves for a percentage of .660.
 
Eastern New Mexico is guided by first year head coach Jon Fridal who became the sixth head coach in program history back on February 2nd. He came to Portales from Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa.
 
THE SERIES
Thursday night will mark the 31st meeting on the pitch between the Buffs and Hounds dating back to the 2004 campaign. WT leads the all-time series 19-7-4, the Buffs are 6-4-2 all-time in Portales.
 
THE LAST MEETING
The #23 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M held a two goal lead with 30 minutes remaining but the rival Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico battled back with a pair of second half scores to leave Canyon with a 2-2 draw in Heartland Conference action
 
WT headed to overtime for the second time in three days as the two teams traded numerous chances in the pair of overtime periods but none could find the back of the net as the game ended in a 2-2 draw. Colin Burgiel registered five saves on 16 shots faced in goal for the Buffs
 
WT HEAD COACH BUTCH LAUFFER
Butch Lauffer enters his 28th season as head men's soccer coach at West Texas A&M. Lauffer is now the longest tenured head coach in West Texas A&M history in a storied career dating back to 1991. Lauffer reached the 500-win plateau on September 30th of last season in Odessa, Texas with a dominating 13-2 win over UT Permian Basin.
 
During his tenure, Lauffer has coached the men to 26 consecutive non-losing seasons and the women to 12-plus victories in 12 seasons. Lauffer has recorded a 329-147-35 (.661) record at the helm of the Buffs with a 519-214-52 (.680) overall record at WT.
 
NATIONALLY SPEAKING
Entering the week, the Buffs ranked second in the nation in total points (148.0) and goals scored (52.0) . WT ranks third in total assists (44.0), sixth in scoring offense (3.25) and points per game (9.25) while sitting eighth in assists per game (2.75), shots per game (18.44) and shots on goal per game (9.0). Alexander Vencel ranks third in save percentage (.875) and sixth in goals against average (.491).
 
LAST TIME OUT
The #15 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M scored four goals in the first half and never looked back as they rolled past the visiting Falcons of UT Permian Basin on Thursday night in Heartland Conference action on Senior Night at The Pitch in Canyon, Texas.
 
Colin Burgiel picked up the win for the Buffs, registering three saves on five shots to move to 5-1-1 on the season for his fourth shutout.
 
NCAA REGIONAL RANKINGS (OCT. 25)
West Texas A&M remained fourth in the newest NCAA Division II Men's Soccer South Central Region rankings announced on Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana.
 
The MSU Texas Mustangs sit atop of the rankings followed by Colorado School of Mines, Colorado Mesa, WT, Westminster and St. Mary's.
