CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M continue their Heartland Conference road trip on Saturday afternoon as they head to Wichita Falls, Texas to take on the #3 Mustangs of MSU Texas starting at 1 p.m. at Stang Park in a Highway 287 Challenge Cup showdown.

#3 MSU TEXAS
The Mustangs enter the weekend with an overall record of 11-0-1 with a 8-0-1 mark in league action following a 2-0 win over Eastern New Mexico on Thursday night in Wichita Falls to run their unbeaten streak to 35 matches, tying the fourth longest unbeaten streak in NCAA Division II history.

MSU is led offensively by Rory O'Keeffe and Gui Leme with five goals and 10 points each. The Mustangs average 2.75 goals per game on 214 total shots with 91 of those falling on goal. Taylor Lampe is 11-0-1 in goal for MSU, allowing nine goals with 23 saves for a percentage of .719.

Michael Meachum is in his eighth season in Wichita Falls, being elevated to Interim Head Coach before the start of the 2018 campaign. The Mustangs have dominated the Heartland Conference since joining in 2016, registering a mark of 33-1-3 over the last three seasons.

THE SERIES
Saturday afternoon will mark the 50th overall meeting on the pitch between the Buffs and Mustangs dating back to WT's inaugural season in 1991. MSU leads the all-time series, 29-17-3 with the Mustangs taking the last nine meetings against the Buffs. WT is 7-15-1 all-time in Wichita Falls, dropping their last seven contests at Stang Park.

THE LAST MEETING
An overtime goal by Midwestern State's Scott Doney spoiled West Texas A&M's upset bid of then #8 MSU Texas in the Buffs' 2017 home-opener in Canyon.

MSU Texas was tabbed atop of the Heartland Conference Preseason Poll announced on August 21st. The Mustangs picked up 22 of the possible 24 first place votes for 285 points followed by St. Edward's (one first place, 254), West Texas A&M (one first place, 241), Texas A&M-International (203), St. Mary's (176), Rogers State (157), UT Permian Basin (140), Lubbock Christian (120), Newman (94), Dallas Baptist (90), Eastern New Mexico (68) and Oklahoma Christian (44).

WT HEAD COACH BUTCH LAUFFER
Butch Lauffer enters his 28th season as head men's soccer coach at West Texas A&M. Lauffer is now the longest tenured head coach in West Texas A&M history in a storied career dating back to 1991. Lauffer reached the 500-win plateau on September 30th of last season in Odessa, Texas with a dominating 13-2 win over UT Permian Basin.

During his tenure, Lauffer has coached the men to 26 consecutive non-losing seasons and the women to 12-plus victories in 12 seasons. Lauffer has recorded a 325-147-35 (.661) record at the helm of the Buffs with a 515-214-52 (.680) overall record at WT.

Entering the week, the Buffs ranked fifth in the nation in scoring offense (3.36) and points per game (9.64) while ranking seventh in total points with 106.0. WT is eighth in total goals (37.0) while ranking ninth in assists per game (2.91) and total assists (32.0).

The Buffs started off a huge Heartland Conference road trip on a high-note on Thursday night as they rolled past the Eagles of Oklahoma Christian in league play at the Eagle Soccer Field in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
