#5 Lady Buffs Head to San Angelo for the 2017 Lone Star Conference Championship

CANYON, Texas
– The #5 Lady Buffs make their ninth appearance in the Lone Star Conference Tournament this weekend in San Angelo, Texas as they enter the event as the second seed. WT has earned a bye in the Quarterfinal round and will face off with the winner of Cameron and Texas A&M-Commerce on Friday (4 p.m.) at Mayer Field.
 
CAMERON
Cameron enters the LSC Tournament as the three seed with an overall record of 32-17 with a 20-8 mark in LSC play. The Aggies are led by first year head coach Dennis Furr.
 
The Aggies are led offensively by Brenna Busby who is hitting .356 with 10 doubles and 11 homeruns to drive in 39 RBI. In the circle, Bethany Hines leads the way with a 3.18 ERA to go 24-7 this season with 118 K's in 202.1 innings.
 
WT leads the overall series with the Aggies, 28-9 with the Lady Buffs taking two of three from Cameron earlier this season in Lawton.
 
TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE
The Lions enter the weekend with an overall record of 34-19 with a 16-14 mark in LSC play. TAMUC is led by third year head coach Richie Bruister.
 
Commerce is led offensively by Mariah Jameyson who is hitting .412 with 13 doubles and 20 homeruns to drive in 69 RBI. In the circle, TAMUC is led by Kinsie Hebler with a 2.73 ERA with 61 K's in 89.2 innings of work for an overall record of 10-3.
 
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series against the Lions, 10-2 with WT sweeping a three-game series from TAMUC earlier this season in Canyon.
 
LADY BUFFS IN THE LSC CHAMPIONSHIP
The Lady Buffs will be making their ninth appearance in the Lone Star Conference Championship this weekend as they carry an overall record of 14-8 in the event. WT has claimed the last two LSC Tournament Titles with the last four events taking place in Canyon.
 
NFCA DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL (MAY 3)
Angelo State picked up all 16 of the first place votes for a unanimous total of 400 points to sit atop of the poll followed by Harding (384), North Georgia (367), Cal State Monterey Bay (346), WT (320), Southern Indiana (311), West Virginia Wesleyan (299), Pfeiffer (289), Minnesota State (283) and West Florida (244) to round out the top ten.
 
The South Central Region was represented by Angelo State (1st), WT (5th), Colorado Mesa (12th) and St. Mary's (19th).
 
WT SOFTBALL IN THE NFCA TOP-25 POLL
The Lady Buffs have been ranked inside of the NFCA Division II Top-25 Poll for 54 straight weeks. The Lady Buffs have been ranked in the Top-5 in 40 polls since the start of the 2014 season while sitting atop of the poll an incredible 29 times.
 
LSC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (MAY 2)
HITTER
Ashley Hardin, West Texas A&M
Hardin had another monster weekend at the plate for the #7 Lady Buffs as the junior center fielder hit .800 on the weekend. Her performance included a double and three home runs to drive in six RBI with 18 total bases for an incredible slugging percentage of 1.800 to go along with a walk and a HBP for an on-base clip of .833. The junior ended the weekend with a 2-for-2 day at the plate in the finale with a solo home run, her 56th of her career to tie for third in the WT record books.
 
PITCHER
Kilee Halbert, West Texas A&M
Halbert continued to roll in the circle this past weekend as the junior right-hander went 2-0 with a 0.88 ERA as the Lady Buffs swept past Eastern New Mexico in Portales to conclude the regular season. The Dalhart native allowed just six hits in her 8.0 innings of work with four walks and four strikeouts with an opposing batting average of .222. The junior became just the third Lady Buff in program history to register multiple 20-plus win seasons.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
The Lady Buffs have turned Schaeffer Park into one of the top home environments in all of NCAA Division II Softball. WT is 197-30 (.868) at Schaeffer Park since the facility opened prior to the 2011 season including 85-14 (.859) during regular season Lone Star Conference games in Canyon. 2016 marked the fifth time in the last six years ('11, '13, '14, '15, '16) that the Lady Buffs hosted NCAA Postseason action.

800 CAREER WINS
West Texas A&M head coach Kevin Blaskowski became the 26th Division II skipper with 800 career wins while being just the 12th active head coach to reach the milestone with a 3-1 victory in Game 1 against Midwestern State March 25th at Schaeffer Park.
 
NATIONALLY SPEAKING
Entering the weekend, WT leads all of Division II in home runs per game (1.94) and on-base percentage (.476) while ranking second in batting average (.386), doubles per game (2.29) and double plays per game (.57) while ranking third in scoring (8.55).
 
Hardin ranks 10th in the nation in doubles (19) and fifth in runs per game (1.27) while Kylee Moore is third in homeruns per game (0.38), sixth in homeruns (17) and slugging percentage (.883).
 
NCAA SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL RANKINGS
The top ranked Belles of Angelo State sit atop of the second release of the NCAA South Central Regional Rankings followed by the #5 Lady Buffs, #19 St, Mary's, #12 Colorado Mesa, Cameron, Texas Woman's, Tarleton State, Texas A&M-Commerce, Lubbock Christian and Colorado School of Mines.
 
If the playoffs started today, Angelo State would host a four-team double elimination tournament in San Angelo against Colorado Mesa, Cameron and Texas A&M-Commerce while St. Mary's, Texas Woman's and Tarleton State would travel to Canyon to face-off with the Lady Buffs on May 11-13 with the winner of those two regionals facing off in a best-of-three Super Regional at the highest remaining seed on May 19-20. The NCAA Division II College World Series will take place at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia on May 25-29.
