Balanced Attack Leads West Texas A&M Past Northern Michigan in Straight Sets

CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M saw seven different players register a kill including nine by senior outside Cori Haley as the Lady Buffs rolled past the Wildcats of Northern Michigan (26-24, 25-20, 25-18) on Friday night during the BritKare Lady Buff Classic at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon. The Lady Buffs overcome a loss earlier in the day to improve to 1-1 while the Wildcats fall to 2-1.
 
The Lady Buffs were led offensively by senior outside hitter Cori Haley with nine kills on 23 swings to hit .174 followed by Michaela Montgomery with eight and Elisa Bentsen with seven kills on the night, Selena Batiste continued to impress as the freshman dished out 23 assists and tallied five kills while Kyli Schulz registered 12 assists with fellow senior Lauren Britten leading all players with 12 digs. The Lady Buffs registered 39 kills on 90 swings with 16 errors to hit .256 as a team to go along with 38 assists, 32 digs and five total blocks.
 
The Wildcats were led by Kayla Chosa with a match high 11 kills on 19 swings with just four attack errors to hit .368 on the night followed by Madison Whitehead with seven kills, Jami Hogeboom led all players with 29 assists while Megan Dahl registered nine digs to lead NMU. The Wildcats registered 36 kills on 92 swings with 22 errors to hit .152 as a team to go along with 34 assists, 31 digs and four total blocks in the match.
 
UP NEXT
WT concludes the 2016 BritKare Lady Buff Classic tomorrow as they take on the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State at 1 p.m. followed by a matchup with the McKendree Bearcats at 7:30 at The Box in Canyon.
