Montgomery’s Big Afternoon Leads the Lady Buffs Past Indianapolis in Four Sets

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – West Texas A&M's Michaela Montgomery tied a career high with 15 kills as the Lady Buffs responded from an opening set loss to top the Greyhounds from the University of Indianapolis (22-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-22) at the Ruth Lilly Center to conclude the 2016 UIndy Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Buffs claimed their second win of the day to move to 4-4 overall while the Greyhounds fall to 2-5.
 
The Lady Buffs were led offensively by sophomore outside hitter Michaela Montgomery who tied a career high with 15 kills on 24 swings with just three attack errors to hit an impressive .500 on the afternoon followed in double-digit kills by Elisa Bentsen (11) and Cori Haley (10). Selena Batiste dished out a team high 26 assists followed by Kyli Schulz with 22 while senior libero Lauren Britten tallied 19 digs in the match. WT registered 57 kills on 136 swings with 17 errors to hit .294 as a team with 52 assists, 52 digs and six total blocks.
 
The Greyhounds were led by Katie Voelz who led all players with 17 kills 32 swings with just one attack error to hit .667 in the match while Kacee Salyers registered a double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs, Remi Bowman dished out a match high 50 assists while Maggie Gibson and Salyers led UIndy with 12 digs each. UINdy registered 60 kills on 142 swings with 24 attack errors to hit .254 as a team with 55 assists, 51 digs and 11 total blocks.

The Lady Buffs open up their Lone Star Conference schedule on the road next weekend as they take on the Cameron Aggies on Friday night at 5:30 p.m. CT at Aggie Gym in Lawton, Oklahoma followed by a Saturday afternoon Highway 287 Challenge matchup with Midwestern State with first serve set for 5 p.m. CT in Wichita Falls.
