#2 Lady Buffs Sweep Past Eastern New Mexico on Senior Weekend for their Third Straight LSC Title

CANYON, Texas – The #2 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M came into the day with atleast a share of the 2016 Lone Star Conference Championship but WT left no doubt after two run-rule wins over Eastern New Mexico to claim the program's third straight league title in front of over 450 fans at Schaeffer Park in Canyon to wrap-up Senior Weekend. The Lady Buffs move to 44-2 (26-2 LSC) while ENMU falls to 11-35 (3-21 LSC) on the season.
 
The Lady Buffs will now take a break from Lone Star Conference play as they make the short trip down Interstate 27 for a midweek matchup with the Lady Chaps of Lubbock Christian on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at Plains Capital Field in Lubbock. LCU enters the week with an overall record of 36-10 with a 13-5 mark in Heartland Conference play following a series win at Oklahoma Panhandle State.
 
WT has earned the right to host the Lone Star Conference Championship on April 29-30, they will be the top seed in the event and receive a bye in the quarterfinal round and play the winner of the 4/5 seed game in the semifinals on Friday night at a time to be determined. GAME #1
The day started off with a great moment as senior shortstop Stacey Ramirez was subbed into the game for the first pitch of Senior Day following a knee injury as the crowd rose to their feet. The Greyhounds started off the scoring with two outs as Susannah Chandler doubled to center field followed by a Morgan Green bloop single down the right field line to give ENMU the 2-0 lead.
 
The Lady Buffs responded in the home half of the third inning as Brittany Cruz led off the frame with a solo bomb over the scoreboard in straightaway center field followed two batters later by a Kourtney Coveney triple to the right center field gap and a Shea Ibrahim sac fly to left to tie the game at 2-2. WT used the long ball again in the fifth as Allie Smith crushed a ball to center to leadoff the frame, Andrea Sitter and Shayne Starkey registered back-to-back doubles to add to the lead followed by a passed ball and Cruz sac fly to right to make it 5-2.
 
WT put the game away in the bottom of the fifth inning with a pair of two-run homeruns as Ashley Hardin and Sitter launched dingers to run the lead to 9-2, Taylor added to her career highlights in the home half of the sixth as the senior laced a walkoff double to the left center field gap to score Coveney for the 10-2 win and their 3rd straight LSC Title. Kilee Halbert picked up the win (18-1) for the Lady Buffs, giving up two runs on three hits with one walk and four strikeouts in the complete game win.
 
GAME #2
The Lady Buffs scored first in the finale as Hardin led off the frame with a four pitch walk followed by a Smith double to the alley in right center field, Hardin would score on an ENMU wild pitch followed by a Starkey sac fly to give WT the 2-0 lead after two complete. WT added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with a Sitter single to center field followed by a Cruz three-run bomb the opposite way to right field to run the lead to 6-0.
 
Coach B took the time to get his seniors a curtain-call in the top of the fifth inning to a standing ovation by the Schaeffer Park faithful, Hardin would end the game in style in the home half of the inning with a two-run bomb to left center field to give the Lady Buffs a 8-0 win and the series sweep. Tori Bayer picked up the win (12-0) for the Lady Buffs in the circle, giving up no runs on five hits with no walks and three strikeouts in the complete game victory.
