KINGSVILLE, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes ran their win streak to seven games while staying in a tie for first place in the Lone Star Conference on Saturday night as they took a six point lead into half and never looked back in a 75-62 road win at the Steinke Center against the Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Buffs improve to 19-7 (7-3 LSC) with the win while the Javelinas fall to 9-11 (1-8 LSC) overall.
The Buffs went 24-of-47 (51.1%) from the floor in the game including 11-of-24 (45.8%) from long range and 16-of-22 (72.7%) from the charity stripe to go along with 39 rebounds (nine offensive, 30 defensive), 21 fouls, 10 assists, 18 turnovers, four blocks and three steals.
David Chavlovich went 8-of-14 from the floor including 4-of-9 from deep to score a game high 24 points followed by
Jordan Evans with 21 to go along with nine rebounds to finish just one board shy of a double-double.
With his 24 points on Saturday night, Chavlovich sits just 14 points away from the 1,000 career point milestone. To reach the career top-10 for the Buffs, Chavlovich needs 1,138 points for a tie for 10th with WTAMU Hall of Champions member Troy Burrus (1952-54). WT's all-time leading scorer is Martin Lattibeaudiere with 1,566 career points in 112 games from 1993-97.
Texas A&M-Kingsville went 21-of-66 (31.8%) from the field including 4-of-21 (19%) from deep and 16-of-23 (69.6%) from the free throw line to go along with 35 total rebounds (18 offensive, 17 defensive), 18 fouls, eight assists, nine turnovers, no blocks and six steals. DJ Weathers went 8-of-19 from the floor including 2-of-8 from deep to lead the Javelinas with 22 points followed by Troy Jones with 18 and Cris Boleware with 10 while Jones grabbed eight rebounds to lead TAMUK.
The Buffs continue their Lone Star Conference road trip on Wednesday night as they head to Wichita Falls, Texas for a Highway 287 Challenge Cup matchup with the rival Mustangs of Midwestern State with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Mustangs are currently 16-5 with a 5-4 mark in LSC play as they fell to Texas A&M-Commerce (70-66) on Saturday night in Wichita Falls.
