CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M baseball team split a doubleheader with Oklahoma Christian on Saturday afternoon at Wilder Park. The Buffs won in extra innings in the first game, 13-12, before falling 18-4 in the second game. The Buffs record stands at 11-3 after taking two of three from the Eagles.
For the doubleheader, WT hit .349 on 22 of 63 with seven doubles, two home runs and 19 runs scored.
Christian Loya had two home runs, both in the second game while Jason Day hit one in game one.

Jake Fuller made an outstanding sliding stop and throw to get Jared Sterling for the first out of the game. Derek Jones singled a 3-1 pitch up the middle of the infield for the Eagles first hit of the game. Jones advanced to third on a single from Robert Rosser to left field and later went on to score on Jake Baxter sacrifice fly to right field.
Justin McAllister got Ben McKenzie to fly out to
Nick Chapman as the Eagles left one on base in the top half of the first.
Trace Hansen walked on four pitches to start the bottom half of the inning for the Buffs.
Matt Cole also reached base on a walk.
Nick Chapman beat out a double play as Hansen advanced to third as Cole was out at second for the first out of the inning. Jason Day made them pay at the next at bat as he took a 2-0 pitch over the left field wall for his second home run of the season. His three run shot gave the Buffs a 3-1 lead.
Zac Cobble's single to center field with two outs in the top of the second brought the Eagles within one run, 3-2.
Jake Fuller extended the Buffs lead to 5-2 with a double in the bottom of the third inning with two outs. He sent a blooper to the center fielder on a 3-2 pitch as
Christian Loya and
Nick Chapman scored from first and second.
Austin Orth's single to left field scored Jake Collins in the top of the fourth. Collins reached base after taking a 0-2 pitch off the left field wall for a double.
The Buffs had a big bottom half of the fourth scoring three runs on three hits, one error and two left on base.
Jason Day reached on an error as
Troy LaBrie scored from third to extend the Buffs.
Hunter Henderson was the next Buff up and took a 0-2 pitch back up the middle as
Josh Day scored from second. Loya kept the momentum going with an RBI single with two outs.
The Eagles stormed back scoring a combined eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings as the Buffs went through four different pitchers. Ben McKenzie and Jake Baxter hit a pair of three run homeruns to give OCU an 11-8 lead.
The Buffs tied the game in the bottom half of the sixth inning with RBI by both Jason Day,
Aaron De La Paz and Loya. Jason Day started the rally when he pulled a 2-1 offering to left field to score
Matt Cole. Pinch hitter De La Paz hit a sacrifice fly to deep center to bring in Chapman. Loya took the next pitch to right field to bring home Day to tie the game at 11-11.
The Eagles took a 12-11 lead in the top of the eighth inning after loading the bases with one out. Orth brought home Baxter with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Fuller tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with his single up the middle. That was followed by a single by Shiflett as Fuller used his speed to reach third base.
Jace Reese was intentionally walked after pinch hitting for LaBrie. With the bases loaded, Hansen sent the first pitch over the head of the right fielder for his second walk off hit and extended the Buffs win streak to nine games.
For the game,
Kyle Tinius picked up his third victory of the season after pitching a scoreless 2/3 innings. Day lead the team with four RBI on two hits while Fuller added three RBI on one two hits.
GAME #2The Eagles took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a RBI single from Justin Baxter and a two-run RBI triple from Kyle Lacy.
The Buffs scored two in the bottom half of the first inning as
Trace Hansen started off with a double to get into scoring position. Hansen scored on a RBI double by
Matt Cole. Cole later scored on a wild pitch from Jared Sterling.
The Eagles added seven runs in the third and fourth inning to extend their lead to 10-2 on three RBI from Robert Rosser and a two run home run from Baxter.
Christian Loya sent one to the parking lot in the bottom of the fourth inning on a 1-1 count. That was his second homerun of the series.
The Eagles scored six runs in the top half of the sixth to extend their lead to 16-3.
Loya hit his second home run of the game on the first pitch of his at-bat in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Eagles added two more runs in the top of seventh with a home run from McKenzie and RBI from Lane Paul.
The Buffs added two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a double with two outs from Chatman to bring the score 18-6.
For the game, Loya hit two solo home runs over the right field wall while Chapman added two more RBI.
The Buffs will start Lone Star Conference play next weekend at Wilder Park when they play host to Tarleton State.
