ALVA , Okla.  – In an old Lone Star Conference matchup, Northeastern State posted a 5-1, neutral site victory over West Texas A&M Saturday afternoon at Northwestern Oklahoma State.  With the loss, WT fell to 3-2 on the year and NSU improved to 5-2.

Northeastern State plated three runs in the top of the third – all with two out as a walk, followed with an error and a three run home run from Eric Kirkpatrick of WT senior starter Austin Moore with all of the runs being unearned.

The Buffs came back in the bottom of the inning with a walk to junior Troy LaBrie and a nice sacrifice bunt from senior Mason Shiflett moved LaBrie to second.  He advanced to third on a passed ball.  NSU starter Zach Parish got a pop out for the second out and got a ground out to end the threat leaving LaBrie stranded at third.  WT left 13 on base in the 13-3 loss at Lubbock Christian on Tuesday.

A walk and a passed ball put the RiverHawks in scoring position in the fourth, followed by a sacrifice bunt.  Moore got a strikeout for the second out and got a ground out to third to end the threat.

A leadoff walk and Kirkpatrick played Buff killer once again as he singled through the left side for a RBI and a 4-0 lead as junior Josh Payne relieved Moore.  Payne got the RiverHawks to hit into a double play to end the top of the fifth.  Payne then got out of a two on, one out jam in the sixth with a strikeout and a fielder's choice keeping the deficit at 4-0.

Despite being no-hit by Parish, Shiflett reached on a strikeout passed ball and senior Trace Hansen was hit by the Parish offering in the bottom of the sixth with nobody out.   Following two outs, senior Jace Reese was plunked by a pitch to load the bases with two away.  Parish got junior Hunter Henderson to strikeout swinging to end the threat as the Buffs left the bases loaded for the fourth time in the last two games.

NSU scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh as junior Colby Price came in to pitch for Payne.  In the bottom of the inning, junior Cole Sanchez belted a home run to left center as it was the first hit of the game for the Buffs.  LaBrie doubled as the Buffs loaded the bases once again, but were unable to bring in another run.

With one last at bat in the bottom of the ninth, Sanchez struck out to begin the frame off NSU reliever Thomas Murray.  Murray walked LaBrie and senior Aaron De La Paz pinch hit for Shiflett.  De La Paz struck out and Hansen popped out to second to end the game.

WT had just two hits on the game with two errors.  Sanchez had the solo home run.  Kirkpatrick was 2 for 4 with a run scored and four RBI.  Charles Sims had two hits and three runs scored.

Moore (0-1) took the loss going 4.1 innings, allowing three hits, four runs – only one earned, four walks and he fanned four.  Parish (1-0) earns the win in 6.2 innings, allowing two hits, one earned run, while walking three and fanning eight.  Thomas Murray picked up a save in 2.1 innings with one walk and three strikeouts.

The Buffs play Northwest Oklahoma State following the NSU game and will play NWOSU again Sunday at 1 p.m.
