Lady Buffs Head South for Matchups with Texas A&M-Kingsville and Arkansas-Fort Smith

CANYON, Texas –
West Texas A&M hits the road this weekend as they take on Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday night with first serve set for 7 p.m. at the Steinke Center. WT will then take on the two-time defending South Central Regional Champion Lions of Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at Bill Greehey Arena on the campus of St. Mary's University.
 
- SCOUTING THE FIELD
TEXAS A&M-KINGSVILLE
The Javelinas are led by sixth year head coach Tanya Allen who has led TAMUK to four-straight LSC Tournaments.
 
Texas A&M-Kingsville enters the week with an overall record of 12-5 with a 3-3 mark in LSC play following losses at Tarleton State and #13 Angelo State this past weekend.
 
The Javelinas are led offensively by Krystal Faison with 193 kills (3.64/set) on 551 swings with 66 attack errors to hit .230 on the season, Casey Klobedans guides the TAMUK offense with 657 assists (10.43/set) while Krystal Puente leads the way defensively with 241 digs to average 3.83 per frame.
 
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series with the Javelinas, 49-8 with the Lady Buffs sweeping TAMUK in their last meeting on Nov. 14, 2015 in Kingsville. WT is 22-3 all-time at the Steinke Center.
 
ARKANSAS-FORT SMITH
The Lions are led by 19th year head coach Jane Sargent who has led the Lions to back-to-back South Central Regional Titles.
 
Arkansas-Fort Smith enters the week with an overall record of 8-5 with a perfect 4-0 mark in Heartland Conference play following wins over Dallas Baptist and St. Edward's last weekend. UAFS takes on A&M-International on Thursday followed by St. Mary's on Saturday.
 
The Lions are led offensively by Kennedi Coleman with 191 kills (3.98/set) on 547 swings with 58 attack errors to hit .243 on the year, Erin Black paces the Lion offense with 377 assists on teh season to average 8.77 per frame while Emily Tripp leads the way defensively with 330 digs (6.88/set).
 
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series against the Lions, 4-2 with UAFS taking the last meeting between the two teams in a sweep back on Nov. 7, 2015 in Wichita, Kansas.
 
- A LOOK BACK
WNMU RECAP
West Texas A&M started fast and never looked back as they made quick work of the Western New Mexico Mustangs (25-15, 25-19, 25-19) on Friday night at the WTAMU Fieldhouse.
 
WT was led offensively by Cori Haley with 11 kills on 28 swings with five attack errors to hit .214 on the night to go along with 10 digs for a double-double followed by Selena Batiste with 10 kills on 16 swings with just one error to hit an impressive .625 on the night to go along with a team-high 25 assists for the double-double, Kyli Schulz dished out 17 assists on the night while Lauren Britten moved into fourth place on the all-time WT career digs list with 15 on the night to run her career total to 1,809. WT registered 47 kills on 109 swings with 13 attack errors to hit .312 as a team with 46 assists, 59 digs and 10.5 total blocks in the sweep.
 
ENMU RECAP
WT hit .264 as a team and tallied 10 total blocks as they cruised past the rival Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico (25-20, 25-16, 25-22) on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Lady Buffs were led offensively by Taylor Kress with 11 kills on 25 swings with just two attack errors to hit .360 on the afternoon followed by Elisa Bentsen with 10 kills to go along with four blocks, Selena Batiste dished out a match high 26 assists followed by Kyli Schulz with 11 while Lauren Britten led the way defensively with 13 digs in the win. WT registered 41 kills on 110 swings with 12 attack errors to hit .264 as a team with 39 assists, 50 digs and 10 total blocks.
 
THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
Entering this week, LSC volleyball teams are 97-75 overall this season. The squads are currently 15-9 combined versus Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, and 19-5 against the Heartland Conference, which are the other leagues in the NCAA South Central Region. Tarleton State's Hailey Roberts was named the LSC Offensive Player of the Week while Texas A&M-Commerce's Ashley Mireles picked up the Defensive honors, WT's Selena Batiste was tabbed the league's Setter of the Week on Tuesday afternoon by the LSC offices located in Richardson, Texas.
 
HOME DOMINANCE
West Texas A&M is fortunate to have one of the best home environments in all of NCAA Volleyball, in any division. The WTAMU Fieldhouse is more affectionately known as "The Box," is home to 19 Lone Star Conference Championships, 13 Regional Titles and three NCAA Division II National Championships. The WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" boats one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 448-71 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 86.7%.
 
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, a four-time Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year, is now in his eighth season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 362-72 (.834, 12th year including a 226-52 (.813) mark in Canyon. Skoch has led the Lady Buffs to seven appearances in the NCAA Postseason with three South Central Regional Titles and a National Runner-Up finish in 2009.

MOVING ON UP
Senior libero Lauren Britten is making her way up the program's all-time digs list as the Amarillo High School alumni currently sits in fourth place in the WT record books with 1,822 career digs. She is one of only nine Lady Buffs in history with atleast 1,500 career digs and the Amarillo native currently sits 328 digs behind Brittani Bell (2,150 / 2002-05) for third place all-time.
