CANYON, Texas. –
The West Texas A&M men's soccer team will finish its six-match home stand this weekend with pivotal matches against No. 6 St. Edward's and Dallas Baptist. The Buffs and Hilltoppers will face-off in a top five South Central Regional battle on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. at The Pitch. The Patriots of DBU will make their first trip to Canyon since 2014 on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 1 p.m.

What is Next?...
WT will hit the road for the first time in nearly a month when they make the short trip to Lubbock for a Thursday afternoon match against Lubbock Christian on Oct. 20. The Buffs will return home for the final time of the season when they face off against rival Eastern New Mexico on Saturday, Oct. 22. The five seniors on this year's team will be honored before the match.  
          
About St. Edward's…
The No. 6 ranked Hilltoppers will visit The Pitch for the first time since defeating WT 4-0 on Sept. 20, 2014. SEU has won their past three matches by a score of 6-1 after suffering their only loss of the season to Rogers State on Sept. 29.
Junior midfielder Grant Mobley has been one of the best players in the Heartland Conference this season as he ranks third in points (13) and goals (5). The Deer Park, Texas native has two game-winning goals on 16 shots, six of those being on target. Joining Mobley in the attack has been midfielders Josh Taylor and Julian Sanchez. Taylor ranks second on the team in goals (4) while Sanchez had a team-high four assists on the season.
The Hilltoppers defense may be one of best in the nation and it all starts with All-American goalkeeper Kevin Leib. The reigning NSCAA South Central Player of the Year has collected eight shutouts so far this season while only allowing five goals. His .418 goals against average is tops in the conference as is his .667 shutouts per game.
 
The Series with St. Edward's…
The Buffs and Hilltoppers will face off for the 19th time in school history.  WT leads the all-time series 13-5-0 having won six of the last seven matches in Canyon.
 
About Dallas Baptist…
The Patriots will enter the week having lost four straight matches and six of their last seven after starting conference play with a win over St. Mary's.
Senior Forward Riley Alvey has been a bright spot for DBU as he leads the team in goals (4), points (8) and game-winners with three. Brooks Friedman and Jacob Garcia are tied for the lead in assists (2) and rank second in goals (2). Sean Bouland and Tyler Hoffman have seen playing time at goalkeeper with Bouland making nine starts for the Patriots. The junior from Phoenix, Ariz. has made 41 saves on 166 shots faced for .732 save percentage.
 
The Series with Dallas Baptist…
The Buffs and Patriots will meet for the ninth time in school history. WT leads the all-time series 8-0-0 and 5-0-0 in Canyon.  
 
A Look Back…
The Buffs improved their unbeaten streak to seven matches last weekend with wins over Rogers State and Newman at The Pitch. WT's defense was on full display as they held the Hillcats and Jets to a combined four shots on goal. Michael Garcia and Christian Suthers were credited with the game-winners for the Buffs as Suthers golden goal lifted WT to its first overtime win since Oct. 2012.
Junior goalkeeper Patrick Satorie was named the conference's defensive player of the week after picking up two shutouts improving his season total to seven.  The Victoria, Blackburn is now tied with Paul Hart for the second-most shutouts in a career with 17.
 
Around the West Division…
The Buffs were the only team from the west division to win both of their matches this past weekend and now sit atop the division with 18 points. The Falcons of UTPB sit second in the pod after defeating Oklahoma Christian before falling to Midwestern State. Eastern New Mexico sits third after tying both of its matches wile Lubbock Christian sits in fourth with seven points after defeating OCU.
 
Satorie Named Heartland Conference Defensive Player of the Week…
West Texas A&M junior goalkeeper Patrick Satorie has been named the Heartland Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week announced on Monday afternoon by the league's office in Waco, Texas. Midwestern State midfielder Gabriel Cavalcante was named the league's Player of the Week. Satorie extended his shutout streak to three matches as the Buffs defeated Rogers State and Newman at The Pitch this past weekend. The Victoria, Australia native made four total saves over the weekend playing behind one of the best backlines in the nation. He now has seven shutouts on the season which is the fourth-most in a single in school history.
 
Suthers is on Fire…
Senior midfielder Christian Suthers waited four years to score a golden goal for the Buffs. Before slamming one home in the final minute of the first overtime period against Newman, Suthers and the Buffs were 0-4-2 in overtime matches since 2013. The Essex, England native led the team in goals las season (5) has turned provider as he leads this year's squad in assists (4). He had two of those assist in the Buffs 3-0 victory over Rogers State last Thursday night.
 
300 Wins…
Head coach Butch Lauffer is one win short of becoming the 13th active Division II men's head coach to win 300 or more wins. He won his first career game 3-1 against Texas Tech on Sept. 10, 1991. The number-one single at the time was "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" by Bryan Adams while Dead Again was the top movie in theatres. George H. W. Bush was president of the United States of the America and Michael Jordan averaged 31.5 points, 6 rebounds and 5.5 assists.
 
Heartland in the Rankings…
Both St. Edward's and Midwestern State moved up in the latest NSCAA rankings released on Tuesday afternoon. The Hilltoppers moved up two spots to No. 6 while the Mustangs sit 15th after moving up three spots from 18th last week.

Two West Texas A&M men's soccer players have been honored by the Heartland Conference as the Player of Week so far this season. Simon Sebbah became the first Buff to earn the honors on Sept. 26 while Patrick Satorie was honored this past Monday afternoon.

The Buffs seven match unbeaten streak is the longest for the Buffs since Sept.-Oct. 2012 when they also went seven matches without a loss.
