Buffs score season-high seven goals in win against Southern Nazarene

CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M men's soccer team picked up its second consecutive win of the season in dominating fashion over Southern Nazarene, 7-0. The Buffs scored early and often to send the Crimson Storm to their fifth straight loss.
 
 Goals from Jake Wiffen and Ryan Kennedy in the first three minutes gave WT all the momentum. Christian Suthers scored his first of the season in the 24th and Ivan Ulloa added another in the 25th minute to give the Buffs a 4-0 cushion heading into halftime. WT outshot SNU 16-1 in the first half and dominated every facet of the match.
 
The Crimson Storm kept the Buffs quiet until the 81st minute when Alan Salazar found a wide open Chase Withrow in front of the net for a tap in goal. Austin Henderson continued his impressive form with a goal in the 88th minute. Alex Cervantes saved the best for last when his header from Chris Johnson put the icing on the cake in the 89th minute.
 
The seven goals are the most the Buffs have scored since defeating UT-Permian Basin, 7-1, on Oct. 16, 2014. The win improves the Buffs record to 3-3-0 and 4-1-0 all-time against SNU.
 
TURNING POINT
The Buffs scored two goals in the first three minutes. Jake Wiffen got on the end of Christian Suthers cross in the first minute. Ryan Kennedy headed Austin Henderson's free kick past the Colton Hadlock in the 3rd minute.
 
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Christian Suthers and Ivan Ulloa had a match-high four shots. Ulloa and Ryan Kennedy had two shots on goal.
- Henderson had a match-high two assists.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- WT had 14 different players record a shot, 11 of those players had a shot on goal.
- With three goals today, WT now has five goals after the 76th minute this season.
- WT outshot SNU 25-3. The Crimson Storm have now been outshot 137-33 in their five matches.  
- Ulloa, Kenney and Wiffen all opened their scoring accounts for the Buffs.

The Buffs will travel to take on No. 12 Fort Hays State on Sept. 22nd in Hays, Kan. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. WT owns an all-time record of 5-2-1 against the Tigers.
