CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M men's soccer team picked up their second victory of the season defeating UT-Permian Basin, 3-2, Wednesday night at the Pitch. In a match that saw four goals in the first half, the Buffs secured the victory with a
Tom Cowling goal in the 60
th minute.
Austin Henderson opened the scoring in the 20
th minute on a beautiful assist from
Daniel Angloher. The lead was short lived as Michael Barden's corner kick in the 25
th minute found BJ Rodrick how slotted it in the back of the net. WT regained the lead in the 31
st minute after
Alex Villalon was taken down in the box.
Alan Salazar calmly placed the resulting free kick past UTPB's Justin Bryant for his first career. UTPB would strike right before half in the 37
th minute when Nathan Cotterell's free kick found the back of the net. The match was tied at 2-2 at half time with the Buffs with a 11-5 advantage in shots.
Cowling scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 60
th minute. Cowling latched onto
Ivan Ulloa's free kick and placed it perfectly passed the goal keeper. UTPB had one last chance to equalize in the final seconds but were unable to convert on a penalty just outside the box.
The win improves the Buffs record to 2-3 while the Falcons drop to 1-4.
TURNING POINTTom Cowling's second goal of the season proved to be the game-winner in the 60
th minute. Cowling found the back of the net off a set piece by
Ivan Ulloa.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS-
Filip Janjic and
Austin Henderson had a game-high three shots on goal.

Jake Wiffen had a game-high four shots.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE- WT outshot UTPB, 22-7, with 13 of those shots on goal.

Patrick Satorie recorded zero saves as the Falcons only had two shots on goal.

Daniel Angloher had his first assist of the season in the 20
th minute when he found Henderson inside the box. It was his eighth career assist.

Alan Salazar converted his first career penalty kick in the 31
st minute after
Alex Villalon was taken down in the box. The Buffs are 2-for-2 in penalty kicks opportunities this year.
