#3 Lady Buffs Host the 2015 LSC Championship This Weekend at Schaeffer Park

CANYON, Texas-
The Lone Star Conference Champion #3 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M will serve as the host for the 2015 LSC Championship this weekend at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas as WT holds a bye in the quarterfinal round as they await the winner of the Cameron/#22 Angelo State matchup in Friday night's semifinal with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The Lady Buffs claimed their second straight and third overall LSC Championship this past weekend with an overall record of 42-9 with a 22-6 mark in LSC play.
 
WEST TEXAS A&M
The then #2 Lady Buffs dropped three of four games to Texas Woman's in LSC action this past weekend in Canyon, WT used a historic walkoff homerun to claim the league title on Friday night as senior first baseman Allie Cranfill became DII's all-time leader in grand slams with seven to pass former teammate Meghan Slattery with a monster blast to left field for the 9-5 win. WT became the first team in LSC history to win back-to-back regular season title since the league combined their two divisions prior to the 2012 season.
 
THE POSSIBLE OPPONENTS
The Aggies of Cameron enter the LSC Championship with an overall record of 38-15 as they finished fourth in league play with a 16-12 record. The Aggies are led by second year head coach Rodney DeLong who led CU to the program's first NCAA Regional Tournament last season. Cameron is led at the plate by Breezy McComas who is hitting .395 with 17 doubles and 11 homeruns to drive in 40 RBI while Kelsey Watson leads the way in the circle for CU, going 17-6 this season with a 2.86 ERA with 17 complete games and 153 strikeouts. The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series against the Aggies, 22-6 with WT taking seven of the last eight meetings between the two teams including three of four in Lawton earlier this season.
 
The #22 Rambelles of Angelo State enter the weekend with an overall record of 33-14-1 to sit fifth in the league standings with a record of 15-12-1 after dropping 3 of 4 games to Cameorn in Lawton to end the regular season. ASU is led by 12th year head coach Travis Scott who has led the Belles to four NCAA Division II College World Series appearances including the 2004 National Title during his first season in San Angelo. ASU is led at the plate by Madison Greenwell who is hitting .367 with seven doubles and three triples to drive in 15 RBI while freshman Brandy Marlett leads the ASU pitching staff with a 18-5 overall record with a 2.01 ERA, tossing 20 complete games and striking out 149 opposing batters. The Belles lead the all-time series against the Lady Buffs 24-18 with WT taking seven of the last eight meetings between the two teams including 3 of four from ASU earlier this season including a 21-0 opening game no-hitter by Rita Hokianga.
 
NFCA POSTSEASON AWARD WATCHLISTS
West Texas A&M has put three student-athletes on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Postseason Award Watchlists as Renee Erwin and Lacey Taylor are two of 25 finalists for the Schutt Sports/NFCA National Player of the Year award while designated player Allie Smith is one of 25 finalists for the inaugural NFCA Freshman of the Year accolade. The upcoming weeks will see the number of finalist be reduced down and these awards will be announced by the association during the week prior to the 2015 NCAA Division II College World Series in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
 
THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
LSC softball teams are 255-184-4 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the group is currently 53-28 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 37-12 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The overall LSC Champion (WTAMU) held the best winning percentage in regular-season conference games, while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion and receive the league's automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. The single-elimination championship will be played May 1-2, in Canyon, Texas.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
The Lady Buffs have gone 27-5 inside of the friendly confines of Schaeffer Park this season to continue their home dominance. WT is 135-24 (.861) at Schaeffer Park since the facility opened prior to the 2011 season. 2014 marked the third time in the last four years ('11, '13, '14) that the Lady Buffs hosted NCAA Postseason action in Canyon.
 
NFCA DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL (APR. 29)
Valdosta State wrapped up the regular season with 15 of the possible 16 first place votes for a total of 397 points while the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis picked up the final first place nod for a total of 374 points. The Lady Buff (364) come in third followed by Dixie State (360), Cal State Monterey Bay (334), North Georgia (323), St. Mary's (304), Georgia College (271), Augustana (268) and Indianapolis (265) to round out the top ten. The South Central Region was represented by WT (3rd), St. Mary's (7th), Metro State (18th), Angelo State (22nd) and Cameron (RV).
 
SC REGIONAL RANKINGS (APR. 29)
WT (42-9) sits atop of the poll followed by Co-Heartland Champion St. Mary's (39-9) and RMAC Champion Metro State (38-12). Cameron (38-15) used three wins over Angelo State this past weekend to jump to fourth followed by the Belles (33-14-1) who fell three spots out of a hosting position. Texas Woman's (27-19-2) jumped one spot to sixth following three wins in Canyon followed by Regis (27-17), Tarleton State (29-19), Texas A&M-Commerce (29-23) and St. Edward's (25-20). The NCAA will broadcast an online selection show taking place on NCAA.com on Monday, May 4th at 9:00 a.m. CT.

RE-WRITING THE RECORD BOOKS
Senior outfielder Renee Erwin has been on a tear through the WT Softball and Lone Star Conference record books in the past few weeks as the Anna, Texas native has set new league and school marks in homeruns (61), runs batted-in (243) and runs scored (263). Erwin, the defending Daktronics Ron Lenz National Player of the Year, is currently tied for 6th in NCAA Division II history with 61 homeruns while ranking fourth all-time in runs scored (263), sixth in runs batted-in (243) and fifth in total bases (541).
