CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M's Tori Bayer gave up three runs on five hits as the #1 Lady Buffs cruised past the visiting Mavericks of Colorado Mesa, 11-3 in five innings on Sunday afternoon during the Woodward Invitational at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas. The Lady Buffs move to 9-1 overall with the win while the Mavericks fall to 4-8.
 
The Lady Buffs started off the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as Lacey Taylor singled down the right field line with the bases loaded to drive in Stacey Ramirez and Renee Erwin followed by an RBI hit-by-pitch for Allie Smith to give WT the early 3-0 lead. The Mavericks threatened in the top of the second inning with runners on first and second with no outs before Tori Bayer got herself out of the jam with a line drive back to the circle with a throw to Allie Cranfill at first base for the double play followed by a popup in foul territory to Brittany Gehle to end the frame.
 
WT added to their lead in the bottom of the second inning as Tyler Wilkinson led off the frame with a triple to right field followed by a Ramirez RBI double to right center, Kaisha Dacosin drove in Ramirez with an RBI single up the middle with one out to stretch the lead to 5-0. Smith laced a single up the middle with the bases loaded to plate another run followed by an Andrea Sitter RBI with the hit-by-pitch in her first start as a Lady Buff, Gehle grounded into a fielder's choice to drive in Cranfill for the 8-0 lead.
 
Erwin started off the bottom of the third inning with a solo homerun the opposite way over the right field wall followed later in the inning by a Smith RBI fielder's choice to plate Taylor from third base for the 10-0 lead headed to the fourth inning. The Mavericks registered their first hit off of Bayer with a double to leadoff the top of the fourth inning but the junior right hander got out of the inning with a play at the plate on what looked to be a passed ball followed by a triple and a grounder to Ramirez at shortstop to end the inning with WT leading 10-0.
 
The Mavericks wouldn't go down without a fight as Rachel Boothe plated CMU's first runs of the game in the top of the fifth inning with a two RBI triple to left center field with no outs followed by a sacrifice fly by Madelyn Shulz to cut the lead to 10-3. The Lady Buffs ended the game in the bottom of the fifth as Hannah Limmer led off the frame with a double off of the left field wall followed by a Brittany McKissick single up the middle to put runners on the corners with no outs, Krystina Holguin walked to load the bases followed by a groundout for the first out before Morgan Harrison ended the game with an infield single for the 11-3 win.
 
Bayer picked up the win (2-0) in the circle for the Lady Buffs, giving up three runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts in the complete game effort.
