WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The West Texas A&M men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker to #2 Midwestern State 1-0 in overtime on Friday night allowing a goal in the 96
th minute. The Buffs held a 14-12 advantage in shots over the Mustangs but were unable to convert on their chances. The Buffs will finish the 2015 season with their 23
rd consecutive winning season and a record of 9-8-0.
The combination play of
Austin Henderson and
Conrod Goulbourne gave the Buffs their best scoring chance in the first half. Hendrerson found a streaking Goulbourne near post in the 25
th minute but was forced to pass as the goalkeeper came out defend. The resulting shot from
Ivan Ulloa was sent high.
The Buffs were able to maintain possession in large chunks in the latter parts of the first half.
George Beasley nearly gave the Buffs the lead in the 38
th minute when he got on the end of loose ball in the box. His strike was blocked away by the defenders. A
Tom Cowling free kick in 44
th minute was misplayed by MSU's Brice Gardner and
Evan Bozman was inches away from putting the Buffs ahead but the ball was cleared.
Albert Rodriguez, one of the premier scorers in Division II, was held in check for the first half but created space in the 55
th minute but was unable to trouble the Buffs. Farres found a streaking Flavio Guzman but were unable to cause any sort of threat. The Buffs countered with Bozman creating space down the right side resulting Ulloa sending another one high.
Tom Cowling came close in the 60
th minute with a shot from 25 yards out but just went wide right.
Rodrigez got on the end of one in the 62
nd minute but was denied by the might right paw of Satorie.
Daniel Angloher earned a free kick in the 68
th minute but
Alan Salazar's cross went untouched out of bounds. Goulbourne split the defense in the 78
th minute and found
Jake Wiffen but his shot was blocked out for a corner kick.
In the first minute of overtime, Bozman used his speed to blow past his defender to put a service in the box. MSU was up for the challenge and cleared the ball. Salazar's rocket was saved in the 94
th minute by Fazekas to preserve the tie. MSU quickly countered but Christian Okeke's shot went wide.
Leon Taylor scored the golden goal on a save from Satorie on Guzman's point black shot.
TURNING POINTChristian Okeke service in the 96
th minute found Leon Taylor for the game winner.

Alan Salazar had a match-high four shots and three shots on goal. .
