Balanced Attack Leads Lady Buffs in Tuesday Night Sweep of Wayland Baptist

PLAINVIEW, Texas –
The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M hit .442 as a team with 45 kills on 86 attempts as they registered a Tuesday night sweep of the NAIA's #24 ranked Pioneers of Wayland Baptist (25-18, 25-11, 25-12) in front of over 200 fans at the Hutcherson Center in Plainview, Texas. The Lady Buffs move to 13-3 on the season while the Pioneers fall to 9-9.
 
The opening set saw the Pioneers come out swinging as they used a pair of kills to force an early WT timeout with WBU leading 2-0, the Lady Buff fought back to tie the score at 3-3 before they went on a run of their own highlighted by a Kyli Schulz kill on a dig that found its way over the net and a McKenzie Long service ace to force a Wayland timeout with WT leading 14-10. West Texas A&M continued their run after the break as they used a Lauren Bevan service ace at 20-14 followed by a Sydney Harlan kill at 22-17 to stretch their lead to five, WT would end the set on a 3-1 run highlighted by a pair of Cori Haley kills for the 25-18 win.
 
The two teams started out the second set by trading blows to split the opening 10 points of the frame before WT responded with a huge 9-2 run highlighted by a Kameryn Hayes cross court kill and a Jessica Johnson solo block in the middle to force a WBU timeout with the Lady Buffs leading 14-7. WT continued their run after the break as they used a pair of blocks by Johnson and Haley to force the Pioneers second timeout of the frame at 18-8, the powerful WT offense continued to click on all cylinders as they finished the frame on a 7-3 run with a WBU attack error and kills by Haley and Johnson sending WT into the locker room with the 25-11 win.
 
The third set saw the Lady Buffs carry over their momentum from the first set as they used a pair of Bevan kills and a WBU attack error to force a timeout by the Pioneers with WT leading 7-1, Johnson continued her run at the service line with an ace as the Lady Buffs continued their run as Kyli Schulz had a long run at the service line highlighted by a pair of Bevan kills on an errant dig to force WBU's final timeout at 15-2. WT stretched their lead to 18-4 on a Hayes kill before WBU fought back for four three straight points to force a Lady Buff timeout at 18-7, the Pioneers cut the lead to 20-10 before a pair of Bevan kills and a finish by Lexi Davis sparked another WT run to end the match as a Hayes kill from Kyli Schulz gave WT the 25-12 win.
 
The Lady Buffs were led offensively by Bevan with 13 kills followed by Hayes with eight while Johnson, Haley and Harlan tallied six each, Hayes dished out a team high 25 assists while Schulz had 12 with five Lady Buffs registering five digs. West Texas A&M hit .442 on the night with 45 kills on 86 swings with just seven attack errors to go along with 40 assists, 35 digs and 11 total blocks on the night.
 
The Pioneers were led by Shahala Hawkins with 12 kills followed by Chelsey Driskill with eight and Katie Inman with four, Ashlyn Westerman dished out a match high 26 assists on the night while three WBU players registered six digs. Wayland Baptist hit .100 as a team with 27 kills on 90 attempts with 18 attack errors to go along with 26 assists, 29 digs and just one block on the night.
