#23 Lady Buffs Sweep TWU For Their 37th Straight Lone Star Conference Win

CANYON, Texas –
The #23 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M ran their Lone Star Conference win streak to 37 matches while claiming their 21st consecutive win this season as they swept past the rival Pioneers of Texas Woman's (26-24, 25-22, 25-12) in front of over 600 fans at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon on Friday night. The win lifts the Lady Buffs to 29-3 (15-0 LSC) on the season while the Pioneers fall to 18-8 (11-4 LSC).
 
The opening set started off with the teams trading blows as they split the opening 20 points of the frame before TWU jumped out to the biggest lead of the frame with a kill and a service ace to force a Lady Buff timeout at 15-12, Sydney Harlan looked to retake the momentum with a huge kill following the timeout but the Lady Buffs committed a pair of attack errors to spark a small Pioneer run and force WT's second timeout at 18-13. The Lady Buffs finally clicked on defense after the break as they registered back-to-back blocks by Jessica Johnson, Lauren Bevan and Cori Haley followed two points later by an Aspen Sanders service ace to cut the lead to 19-18 and force a TWU timeout, WT continued their run as they ran it to 8-0 on a solo block by Johnson to take the 22-20 lead before the Pioneers responded to force set point at 23-24. WT would respond once again as they used a Lexi Davis kill followed by a TWU attack error to force set point on their side, Davis would end the set on a solo block to take the win at 26-24.
 
The second set saw the teams battle once again as the Lady Buff held the small 10-7 lead on a block by Haley and Johnson to end a long and exciting rally, WT continued to hold the small lead as Kameryn Hayes found Haley on the outside for a kill to force a TWU timeout at 18-14. The Lady Buffs ran their lead to as much as six on a Bevan kill from Kyli Schulz followed by a Hayes solo block on a Pioneer setter dump attempts to make it 23-17 before TWU responded with three straight points including a service ace to force a WT timeout at 23-20. The Pioneers cut the lead to 23-22 before another Davis kill from Schulz forced set point, the Lady Buffs would end the frame as Schulz found Johnson on the quick set in the middle for the 25-22 win.
 
The third frame saw the Lady Buffs come out swinging as they took an early 8-2 lead on a block by Bevan and Davis followed by a Davis kill from Hayes at 11-5 and a Hayes finish from Corey Davis at 13-6, WT continued their run as Davis registered another service ace followed by a Harlan kill on a long rally to force a TWU timeout at 16-7. WT would continue their push after the timeout as they ran their lead to 20-9 on a Pioneers attack error followed by kills from Hayes and Davis to force match point before Harlan ended the match with a great dig that found its way over the net and into an open area for the kill and the 25-12 victory.
 
The Lady Buffs were led offensively by Bevan with 12 kills followed by Harlan with 10 while Davis and Hayes had nine each on the night, Hayes dished out a team high 23 assists followed by Schulz with 13 and Davis with six while Sanders and Lauren Britten had eight digs each on the night. West Texas A&M hit .311 as a team with 47 kills on 106 swings with 14 attack errors to go along with 43 assists, 41 digs and 12 total blocks on the night.
 
Texas Woman's was led by Jacqueline Santon who tied a match high with 12 kills followed by Elizabeth Pennington with 10 and Mallory Kuechle with nine, Joey Redwine dished out a match high 31 assists on the night while teammate Morgan Wilson led all players with 11 digs. The Pioneers hit .140 as a team with 37 kills on 107 attempts with 22 attack errors to go along with 35 assists, 34 digs and six total blocks in the match.
 
The Lady Buffs will wrap-up their regular season schedule tomorrow afternoon as they welcome the Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce to town with first serve set for 2 p.m. at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box". The WT Athletic Department will honor Kameryn Hayes and Lauren Bevan prior to the match for Senior Day, fans are encouraged to show up early and stay after the match for an autograph session with the Lady Buffs on provided WT Volleyball posters.
