Lady Buffs Head to Commerce and Denton for LSC Volleyball Action This Weekend

CANYON, Texas –
The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M will look to continue their strong play this weekend as they hit the road for Lone Star Conference play against the Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce on Friday night at 7 p.m. followed by a matchup against Texas Woman's on Saturday afternoon with first serve set for 2 p.m. at Kitty Magee Arena in Denton, Texas.
 
WEST TEXAS A&M
The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M hit .442 as a team with 45 kills on 86 attempts as they registered a Tuesday night sweep of the NAIA's #24 ranked Pioneers of Wayland Baptist (25-18, 25-11, 25-12) in front of over 200 fans at the Hutcherson Center in Plainview, Texas. The Lady Buffs were led offensively by Lauren Bevan with 13 kills followed by Kameryn Hayes with eight while Jessica Johnson, Cori Haley and Sydney Harlan tallied six each, Hayes dished out a team high 25 assists while Kyli Schulz had 12 with five Lady Buffs registering five digs. West Texas A&M hit .442 on the night with 45 kills on 86 swings with just seven attack errors to go along with 40 assists, 35 digs and 11 total blocks on the night.
 
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, the 2013 LSC and South Central Region Coach of the Year, is now in his sixth season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 317-48 (.868, 11th year) including a 181-28 (.863) mark in Canyon.
 
THE 2014 SCHEDULE
The Lady Buffs will play 33 scheduled matches during the regular season including 16 Lone Star Conference contests, the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" will see a total of 13 regular season contests during the season with eight of those coming in league play. The 2013 Lady Buffs finished the season with an overall record of 35-4 with a perfect 16-0 mark in LSC play to claim the league title while going 22-0 in the friendly confines of "The Box".
 
HOME SWEET HOME
The WTAMU Fielhouse "The Box" boasts one of the most successful home-court advantages in the history of NCAA Volleyball on any level. WT is an amazing 426-61 all-time at The Box for a winning percentage of over 88%.

50 YEARS OF LADY BUFF VOLLEYBALL
The 2014 season marks the 50th year of Lady Buff Volleyball. The Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingsville will travel to Canyon on October 18th for a matchup during the WT Volleyball 50 Year Celebration at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon. Former team members and boosters will return to Canyon for a celebration including a meet & greet, anniversary reception along with recognition during WT's match with Texas A&M-Kingsville.
 
THIS WEEK IN THE LSC
Lone Star Conference volleyball teams are 74-53 overall this season. The squads are currently 15-11 combined versus Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, and 5-7 against the Heartland Conference, which are the other leagues in the NCAA South Central Region. West Texas A&M remains atop of the league standings with a perfect 5-0 mark followed by Angelo State (6-1), Texas Woman's (4-2), Tarleton State (4-3), Texas A&M-Kingsville (3-3), Eastern New Mexico (2-3), Cameron (1-5), Midwestern State (1-5) and Texas A&M-Commerce (1-5).
 
TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE
The Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce enter the weekend with an overall record of 3-12 with a 1-5 mark in Lone Star Conference play following a three set loss to Angelo State on Tuesday night in San Angelo. The Lions are led offensively by the LSC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Amy Davault with 231 kills to average 3.98 per set while teammate Courtney Tate has dished out a team high 561 assists for an average of 9.67 per frame this season. Texas A&M-Commerce is led by fourth year head coach Craig Case who led the Lions to a fifth place finish in the LSC last season, Case carries an overall record of 45-43 into the 2014 season at TAMUC with a 21-33 record in LSC play.
 
THE SERIES VS. TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series against the Lions 36-9 with WT taking the last 18 meetings between the two teams dating back to a pair of TAMUC wins during the 1994 season. The Lady Buffs have won seven straight contests at the A&M-Commerce Fieldhouse dating back to Oct. 15, 1994 in a five set Lions win.
 
TEXAS WOMAN'S
The Texas Woman's Pioneers enter the weekend with an overall record of 9-6 with a 4-2 mark in Lone Star Conference play to sit alone in third place in the league standings. The Pioneers topped Henderson State in straight sets on Tuesday night in non-conference action in Denton. TWU is led offensively by Elizabeth Pennington with 168 kills (2.75/set) followed by Jacqueline Santon with 159 finishes on the year for an average of 2.69 per set, teammate Joey Redwine leads the Pioneers with 474 assists on the season for an average of 8.17 per frame. The Pioneers are led by 12th year head coach Shelly Barberee, leading TWU to the LSC Tournament in each of her first 11 seasons in Denton with an overall record of 192-167 with a 95-58 mark in LSC play. The Pioneers will host Eastern New Mexico on Friday night in Denton with firset serve set for 7 p.m. at Kitty Magee Arena.
 
THE SERIES VS. TEXAS WOMAN'S
The Lady Buffs and Pioneers have battled over the last few seasons in Lone Star Conference play as WT holds the 40-5 series advantage over Texas Woman's entering this weekend's match in Denton. The Lady Buffs have claimed the past 22 matches between the two teams dating back to a four set TWU win on Oct. 4, 1996 in Denton while the Lady Buffs have also taken the past seven meetings at Kitty Magee Arena in Denton.
