CANYON, TEXAS – West Texas A&M Women's Soccer (1-5-3, 0-3-2 LSC) wrap up their three-game road trip in San Antonio, Texas as they take on St. Mary's on Wednesday, September 30 before hosting Angelo State at The Pitch on Saturday, October 3. Wednesday's game is set for 7:00 p.m. while Saturday's game will be played at 3:30 p.m.

Last Time Out
West Texas A&M hit the road this past week as they traveled to Alpine, Texas to take on Sul Ross State.
 
Lady Buffs Draw Sul Ross State as Blancaflor Records Shutout- September 26, 2026
WT set the tone early as they nearly got on the board in the 2nd minute. Jade Martinez would fire a shot top left corner, but Avery Owen would make a leaping save to deny the chance. The Lady Buffs applied continuous pressure throughout the early stages of the game as they were in control of possession. Through the first 20 minutes, West Texas A&M accumulated four shots (two on goal) and three corner kicks. Defensively, WT allowed one shot in the first half which came in the 27th minute and was saved by Franciezca Blancaflor. The Lady Buffs sustained offense would lead to 10 first half shots (six on goal) and four corner kicks, but they were unable to find a goal through 45 minutes as the game would be tied 0-0 at the break.  
 
The second half would see similar results as the Lady Buffs maintained a consistent control of possession while creating a plethora of scoring chances. WT would fire 11 shots in the second half with seven landing on goal but could not come away with the go-ahead goal. West Texas A&M stayed stout on the defensive end as the Lobos did not have a shot on goal in the final 25 minutes of the game. WT would make a late push with four shots on goal in the final 10 minutes of the game but would be denied each time. The score would finalize in a 0-0 draw as West Texas A&M added their second conference point.
 
Top Lady Buffs

• Franciezca Blancaflor came away with a three save shutout in goal. This was her third shutout of the season and with that took sole possession of 10th place in career shutouts at WT with six. Blancaflor is one shutout from passing Sarah Anderson (2004-05) for ninth all-time.
• Sienna Hurrell played all 90 minutes and fired four shots with three landing on goal. This was Hurrell's first game logging 90 minutes as she produced a season best in shots and shots on goal.  
• Braely Martinez landed all three of her shots on goal as she played 77 minutes. Her three shots tied a season-best mark while her three shots on goal where a new season-high.

 
Salado Standout
With three saves this past week, Franciezca Blancaflor continues to climb the save leaderboard at WT with 112 career saves to place her eighth all-time. Blancaflor is now 43 saves from passing Kelly Skehan (2009-10, 154) for seventh. She sits sixth in the Lone Star Conference (LSC) in saves with 42.
 
Following her shutout against Sul Ross State, Blancaflor now sits in 10th place with six career shutouts at WT. Her next shutout will put her in ninth as she will pass Sarah Anderson (2004-05).

Series History
Wednesday's game against St. Mary's will be game 20 in the series between the Lady Buffs and Rattlers with WT holding an 11-4-4 advantage. Despite the advantage, West Texas A&M has lost the last three games in the series including last year's matchup.
 
Late Goals Doom the Lady Buffs on Thursday Night in Canyon- October 2, 2025
The first half commenced with WT establishing early offensive pressure, as Jezmin Castellanos Reyes attempted a shot just two minutes into play, though it went wide. The Lady Buffs maintained their attacking efforts, with Alair Posard and Lauren Stokes each testing the St. Mary's defense, but both shots were saved by goalkeeper Haley Faucette. Despite several fouls disrupting the flow, the Lady Buffs' defense held firm, limiting St. Mary's shot attempts to one off-target effort. The half concluded with neither team breaking the deadlock, keeping the score at 0-0.
 
The second half started with the Lady Buffs creating early opportunities, including a shot by Castellanos Reyes that went wide. Despite conceding an initial goal to St. Mary's, Lawrencia Yeboah equalized for the Buffs at 63:37, bringing the score to 1-1. As the half progressed, the Lady Buffs maintained pressure with multiple attempts, including a shot from Stokes that hit the woodwork. However, St. Mary's responded with two late goals by Elena Kossler, securing a 3-1 lead by the end of the match.
 
Yeboah scored one goal on two shots, with one of the shots on goal, adding a key contribution from midfield. Franciezca Blancaflor played the full 90 minutes as goalkeeper, recording one save from six shots faced. Castellanos Reyes made her presence known in defense with three shots, including one on goal.
 
Saturday's game against Angelo State will be the 48th meeting between the programs with the Lady Buffs leading the series 22-17-8. WT has lost two of the past three matches including last year's game.
 
Angelo State Claims a 2-0 Win Over the Lady Buffs- October 4, 2025
The first half commenced with Franciezca Blancaflor actively defending the goal, making crucial saves in the early minutes to maintain a scoreless start against Angelo State. Despite a series of corner kicks and a penalty kick opportunity from Alicia Cohen, which was saved by Angelo State's goalkeeper Melyna Martinez, the Lady Buffs were unable to find the back of the net. Angelo State managed to take the lead in the 20th minute with a goal by Sanai Stewart. The half concluded with the Lady Buffs trailing 1-0, despite several attempts to level the score, including a shot by Lauren Stokes just before the break.
 
The second half began with the Lady Buffs looking to build offensive momentum. Mollie Ferro registered a shot in the 55th minute, forcing a save from Angelo State's goalkeeper Melyna Martinez. Despite this effort, Angelo State capitalized shortly after, with Sanai Stewart scoring in the 59th minute to extend their lead to 2-0.
 
The Lady Buffs' defense faced pressure but responded with Blancaflor making key saves against shots from Jillian Greaves and Carley Martinez, keeping the deficit manageable. However, a red card issued to Sarah Hernandez Lopez in the 71st minute added to the challenge. WT continued to press, with Michelle Velasco's late attempt in the 88th minute saved, closing the half with a 2-0 score in favor of Angelo State.
 
Franciezca Blancaflor made seven saves in 75 minutes of play, facing 14 shots and allowing two goals. Sydney Nanz contributed with two saves in her 14 minutes on the field without conceding a goal. Alicia Cohen registered two shots, both of which were on goal, leading the team in shots on target. Michelle Velasco took one shot and ensured it was on goal during her time on the pitch.
 
Scouting St. Mary's
The St. Mary's University Rattlers come into this match holding a 5-3-2 record with a 3-2-1 mark in the LSC. They are currently seeded sixth in the standings with wins over Texas A&M International, UT Permian Basin, and UT Dallas along with a tie against St. Edward's. The two losses have come against DBU and Texas Woman's. SMU is coming off a 2025 season where they went 9-6-3 with an 8-4-2 record in LSC play. They would reach the conference tournament where they would fall 1-0 to Texas Woman's in the first round. The Rattlers came into this season projected to finish sixth in the LSC Preseason Poll.
 
The offseason saw St. Mary's lose one of their two All-Conference selections in Shelby Paniagua along with other key pieces in Malia Dominguez, Valerie Hover, and Haley Faucette. Paniagua was named First Team All-LSC after scoring 10 goals and dishing four assists for 24 points in 1507 minutes. She also finished second on the team in shots (67) and shots on goal (30). Dominguez scored four goals for eight points as she was the third leading scorer in 2025. Hover led the Rattlers in minutes with 1569 on defense. Faucette started every game in goal and made 75 saves on a 78.1 percentage with a 1.27 goals allowed average. She also added five shutouts.
 
Headlining the returners for SMU will Elena Kossler who was the LSC Forward and Newcomer of the Year last season as well as D2CCA First Team All-Region. Kossler led the team in points (32), goals (13), assists (6), shots (81), and shots on goal (41). Marily Garza Contreras also returners after tallying seven points from two goals and three assists in 1503 minutes.  
 
Through the first 10 games for SMU, the Rattlers are led by a pair of freshman in Kamrynn Martinez and Helen Lazaro who have 18 and 16 points respectively. Both have two assists while Martinez has eight goals and Lazaro's seven. Three other players have 4+ points in Emilee Durante, Anabelle Rodriguez, and Victoria Morales. Molly Lyons have started eight games in goal and made 44 saves on a 77.2 percentage. She has a 1.88 goals allowed average with one shutout. Kossler has only played in one game this season and tallied an assist.
 
Head Coach Kevin Driggs enters his seventh season with St. Mary's in 2026. He has produced a 60-40-19 record during his tenure while leading SMU to the LSC Tournament every year along with two NCAA Tournament appearances.

Scouting Angelo State
The Angelo State University Rams come into this match holding a 1-6-3 record with an 0-4-2 mark in the LSC. They have tied UT Dallas and St. Edward's while losing to Texas A&M International, DBU, Lubbock Christian, and Oklahoma Christian. ASU currently sits in a tie for 12th place in the LSC standings. The Rams are coming off a 2025 season where they went 9-5-5 and 8-3-3 in conference to finish fifth. They would fall 2-0 to UT Tyler in the quarterfinals of the LSC Tournament. Angelo State came into this season projected to finish seventh in the LSC Preseason Poll.
 
The offseason saw a ton of turnover for the Rams as they lost all seven of their All-LSC Selections including Melyna Martinez (First Team), Christina Clark (Second Team), Harper Saxon (Second Team), Sanai Stewart (Second Team), Lexi Gonzalez (Third Team), Abby James (Third Team), and Graycen Rasmussen (Third Team). Martinez was the LSC Goalkeeper of the Year after recording 59 saves, a 0.70 goals allowed average, and six shutouts. Clark and Saxon made their marks on defense as the two leaders in minutes among field players with 1642 and 1593. Stewart, James, and Rasmussen all totaled 8+ points with Stewart leading the trio with seven goals and two assists for 16 points. Gonzalez scored three times for six points.
 
Through 10 games, three Rams have scored 4+ points in Juliana Garcia, Addison Brown, and Zanae Nylund. Garcia has four goals on the year for eight points while Brown and Nylund each have two goals. Goalkeeper Claire Stoermer has started every game and made 51 saves on a 71.8 percentage. She has a 2.14 goals allowed average with one shutout.
 
Head Coach Mike Erwin enters his first season with Angelo State in 2026. Erwin was previously an Associate Head Coach at St. Mary's for six seasons.
