CANYON, TEXAS – West Texas A&M Women's Soccer (1-3-2) continue Lone Star Conference (LSC) play this week as they host No. 15 Texas Woman's on Wednesday, September 16 before traveling to St. Edward's on Saturday, September 19. Wednesday's game is set for 7:00 p.m. while Saturday's game will kickoff at 1:00 p.m.

Last Time Out
West Texas A&M opened up LSC play this past weekend as they traveled to Lubbock Christian and hosted No. 4 DBU.
 
Lady Buffs Battle to 1-1 Tie in Conference Opener Against Lubbock Christian- September 9, 2026
West Texas A&M wasted no time setting the tone in the game as they pressed the Lady Chaps back into their defensive half. As LCU made a play back to their keeper, Sienna Hurrell continued to press on and would force the keeper into mishandling the ball. Hurrell would come away with the steal right in front of the goal and fire it in to give WT the early advantage. The Lady Buffs would get on the board in 16 seconds, one of the fastest goals in program history. The early goal was a big energizer for WT as they continued to push and control possession. The first 15 minutes saw the Lady Buffs tally two more shots on goal and a corner kick. WT nearly doubled their lead in the ninth minute but would have a goal called back for offsides which would also be reviewed and upheld. Defensively, the Lady Buffs were stout as they limited the Lady Chaps to two shots in the first 40 minutes of action. LCU ended the half with a late surge as they produced three shots with one landing on goal in the final five minutes of the half. WT held strong as they took their 1-0 lead into the break.
 
Moving into the second half, LCU carried over their momentum from the end of the first half and continued to hold possession and generate offense. Lubbock Christian would tie the game in the 63rd minute off a corner kick. They would play the ball short and cross a pass into the center where Kali Guy finished the chance for the equalizer. Franciezca Blancaflor made a pair of key saves over the next seven minutes as she ensured the game stayed knotted 1-1. The Lady Buffs would settle in following the offensive wave from LCU and make one last push to try and get the additional two points in the standings. WT would get fouled just outside the box in the 81st minute where Charo Rodriguez Fortea blasted a shot on the free kick, but had it saved by LCU goalkeeper Emma Wright on the quality chance. The Lady Buffs added two more shots and a corner kick in the final nine minutes but were unable to find the go-ahead goal. West Texas A&M would leave Lubbock, Texas with a 1-1 tie against the Lady Chaps to open LSC play.  
 
Top Lady Buffs

• Sienna Hurrell scored her first goal as a Lady Buff in 81 minutes of action. She capitalized on her lone shot with one of the fastest goals in WT history. Hurrell is now up to three points on the year.
• Charo Rodriguez Fortea tallied three shots with two landing on goal in 90 minutes. This was a season-high in shots and shots on goal for Rodriguez Fortea and also here first game playing all 90 minutes this season.
• Franciezca Blancaflor started in goal and compiled four saves in all 90 minutes. Blancaflor has made 4+ saves in all but one game this season.

 
Lady Buffs Fall 4-0 to No. 4 DBU- September 12, 2026
West Texas A&M found themselves in an early deficit as the Patriots scored in the third minute of the game as they capitalized on a turnover at midfield. That would lead to a breakaway opportunity which would find the back of the net. WT would settle in and create offensive chances for themselves as they produced four shots (three on goal) and a corner kick over the next nine minutes, but nothing would equalize the game. The Lady Buffs continued to fight but allowed two goals in a four-minute stretch during the 27th and 30th minutes as the deficit tripled to 3-0. That score would hold firm going into the half.
 
In the second half, West Texas A&M fell behind in the possession battle as they were unable to control the ball for stretches of time. DBU would tally 14 shots in the second half as they stayed in their attack half. The Lady Buffs stood tall defensively as they kept DBU off the scoreboard for nearly the entire second half, but the Patriots tacked on one more goal in the 86th. The score would finalize at 4-0 with WT dropping the match.
 
Top Lady Buffs

• Ryann Davis played all 90 minutes on defense and added one shot which landed on goal. This was Davis' fourth straight game logging all 90 minutes and fifth on the season.
• Naya Megnin tallied 51 minutes with one shot on goal in her two shots.
• Charo Rodriguez Fortea landed her lone shot on goal in 81 minutes of action.

Salado Standout
With eight saves this past week, Franciezca Blancaflor continues to climb the save leaderboard at WT with 96 saves to place her eighth all-time. Blancaflor is now 59 saves from passing Kelly Skehan (2009-10, 154) for seventh.
 
Iron Woman Defender
With two full games playing all 90 minutes this past week, Ryann Davis extended her streak of playing all 90 minutes to four consecutive games. Davis has gone the distance in five games this year to lead the team in minutes with 508. For her career, the sophomore has logged 90 minutes in 17 of her 24 career games.

Wednesday's game against Texas Woman's will be the 35th game between the Lady Buffs and Pioneers with WT holding an 18-12-4 mark over TWU. Despite the lead, WT has lost three straight games to the Pioneers including last year's matchup.
 
Strong Second Half Lifts #25 TWU Past the Lady Buffs- September 17, 2025
The first half began with a strong defensive effort from WT as Franciezca Blancaflor made a crucial save in the sixth minute to deny Texas Woman's an early lead. Alicia Cohen capitalized on this momentum, scoring in the 10th minute with an assist from Ryann Davis to put the Lady Buffs ahead 1-0. The visitors maintained their lead into the break, with Blancaflor making another key save and the defense holding firm against multiple shots from Texas Woman's.
 
The second half began with a series of fouls committed by WT, including three by Lawrencia Yeboah, who also received a yellow card in the 65th minute. Despite a solid defensive effort, highlighted by Blancaflor's multiple saves, Texas Woman's took the lead in the 67th minute with a goal from Alexandra Hughes. Ailyn Oliveros extended the advantage in the 77th minute, assisted by Jaida Arizmendi, securing a 2-1 victory for the home team.
 
Blancaflor recorded five saves over 90 minutes in goal, facing 13 shots while conceding two goals. Cohen scored WT lone goal, converting her only shot on target with Davis contributing an assist in the match.
 
Saturday's game against St. Edward's will be game 17 in the series between the Lady Buffs and Hilltoppers with West Texas A&M leading the series 8-5-3. SEU has won the past three matchups including last year's game.  
 
West Texas A&M Soccer Drops a 3-2 Decision to St. Edward's- September 20, 2026
The first half began with WT showing offensive intent, as Aaliyah McPeak and Mollie Ferro each attempted early shots, though they missed their targets. Franciezca Blancaflor provided a crucial save against Annie Rocha in the 11th minute, keeping the game level until St. Edward's broke through in the 28th minute with Rocha scoring to put the visitors ahead. Despite several corner opportunities and shots by Alicia Cohen, the Lady Buffs couldn't find the net, and St. Edward's extended their lead with a second goal in the 39th minute, ending the half with a 2-0 advantage.
 
The second half began with Cohen testing the St. Edward's goalkeeper early at the 49th minute. Despite conceding a goal shortly after, the Lady Buffs responded with determination. Yamilet Ruiz netted a goal in the 58th minute, narrowing the deficit to 3-1, and just over ten minutes later, Jezmin Castellanos Reyes added another goal to bring the Lady Buffs within striking distance. Despite further efforts, WT was unable to find an equalizer, concluding the half with a 3-2 scoreline in favor of St. Edward's.
 
Cohen posted four shots with one on goal for the Lady Buffs. Castellanos Reyes scored once on her single shot. Ruiz also found the back of the net with a shot on goal. In goal, Blancaflor recorded one save while allowing two goals in her 45 minutes of play.
 
Scouting Texas Woman's
The Texas Woman's University Pioneers come into this game holding an undefeated record of 6-0 with a 2-0 mark in LSC play. They have beaten Oklahoma Christian 2-0 and St. Edward's 4-0 this past week to open conference play. TWU are currently No. 15 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll. The Pioneers are coming off a 2025 season where they produced a 16-4-3 record with a 9-2-3 mark in LSC play. They would finish third in the standings and ultimately reached the LSC Championship game but would fall 3-2 to DBU. TWU would reach the NCAA Tournament where they beat Colorado Mesa 1-0 before again falling to DBU in the second round. The Pioneers came into this season projected to finish third.
The offseason saw the Pioneers lose one of their starting goalkeepers in Amanda Farris as well Bella Alfaro. Farris started 13 games in goal and produced a 9-2-2 record with 13 saves and a 0.84 goals allowed average. Alfaro played in all 22 games and produced nine points from three goals and assists.
 
Texas Woman's returns a plethora of players from last year's team headlined by Erica Brelove and Giselle Gutierrez who were both All-Region selections and First Team All-LSC. Brelove led the team in minutes with 2006 on defense and notched six points from two goals and assists. Gutierrez led the team in scoring with 30 points from 12 goals and six assists while producing 59 shots with 32 landing on goal. TWU also returns their third All-Conference honoree in Jaida Arizmendi who made Third Team All-LSC and was an LSC All-Freshman selection. Arizmendi finished second in points with 15 from three goals and a team-high nine assists. Other notable returners for the Pioneers include Alexandra Hughes, Bri Luna, Alyssa Striker, Ailyn Oliveros, and Faith Graves. Hughes was second on the team in minutes with 1997 on defense. Luna, Striker, and Oliveros all scored 10+ points with 14, 12, and 10 respectively. Graves started 10 games in goal and made 49 saves to go with a 0.64 goals allowed average and 7-2-1 record.  
 
Gutierrez, Lupita Bueno, and Graves were the three players to watch for the Pioneers in the LSC Preseason Poll.
 
Through their undefeated start, Concepcion Maya leads the team in points with six from three goals. Gutierrez, Luna, and Lauren Wade all have five points with a goal and assist. 10 other Pioneers have recorded points. Graves has stared all six games in goal and allowed one goal with seven saves. She was recently named LSC Goalkeeper of the Week.
 
Head Coach Babak Abouzar enters his 14th season with TWU in 2026. Abouzar holds a 126-84-34 mark and has guided the Pioneers to two NCAA Tournament appearances and nine LSC Tournament appearances.

Scouting St. Edward's
The St. Edward's University Hilltoppers come into this game holding a 0-4-1 record with an 0-1 mark in conference. They are in the midst of a four-game losing streak with losses to No. 4 Colorado Springs (3-1), Regis (2-1), No. 21 Nova Southeastern (1-0), and No. 15 Texas Woman's (4-0). The Hilltoppers are coming off a 2025 season where they went 7-10-3 with a 6-6-2 record in the LSC as they placed ninth in the standings. They would beat Lubbock Christian 1-1 in penalty kicks in the first round of the LSC Tournament before falling 2-0 to Midwestern State. SEU came into this season projected to finish eighth in the LSC Preseason Poll.
 
The offseason saw the Hilltoppers lose their lone All-Conference player in Marie Hannedouche who made Third Team All-LSC. She led the SEU in scoring with 16 points from six goals and four assists. They also lost Bailey Williams ad McKenna Keeley who were their top two field players in minutes with 1609 and 1589 minutes respectively.
 
Returning for St. Edward's will be Annie Rocha, Daria Schlumbohm, Ava Mauldin, and Isabella Ruiz. Rocha finished second on the team in scoring with 15 points from a team-high seven goals and an assist. Schlumbohm started all 20 games in goal and produced 75 saves on a 73.5 percentage with a 1.38 goals allowed average. She also notched four shutouts. Mauldin and Ruiz each scored two goals a season ago.
 
Rocha and Tess Dabney were named the players to watch for the Hilltoppers.
 
Through five games, Riley Sisson leads the team in points with four from two goals. Madison Creswell has scored the other goal for SEU. Schlumbohm has started every game in goal and made 22 saves while tallying a 2.03 goals allowed average.
 
Head Coach Nuno Gourgel enters his first season with St. Edward's. He spent last season as an Assistant Coach with Utah Valley where they made the NCAA Tournament.
