ALPINE, TEXAS – West Texas A&M Women's Soccer (1-5-3, 0-3-2 LSC) came away with a 0-0 draw against Sul Ross State Saturday morning.
Franciezca Blancaflor would come away with a shutout as the Lady Buffs landed 13 shots on goal, but none would find the back of the net.
WT set the tone early as they nearly got on the board in the 2nd minute.
Jade Martinez would fire a shot top left corner, but Avery Owen would make a leaping save to deny the chance. The Lady Buffs applied continuous pressure throughout the early stages of the game as they were in control of possession. Through the first 20 minutes, West Texas A&M accumulated four shots (two on goal) and three corner kicks. Defensively, WT allowed one shot in the first half which came in the 27th minute and was saved by
Franciezca Blancaflor. The Lady Buffs sustained offense would lead to 10 first half shots (six on goal) and four corner kicks, but they were unable to find a goal through 45 minutes as the game would be tied 0-0 at the break.
The second half would see similar results as the Lady Buffs maintained a consistent control of possession while creating a plethora of scoring chances. WT would fire 11 shots in the second half with seven landing on goal but could not come away with the go-ahead goal. West Texas A&M stayed stout on the defensive end as the Lobos did not have a shot on goal in the final 25 minutes of the game. WT would make a late push with four shots on goal in the final 10 minutes of the game but would be denied each time. The score would finalize in a 0-0 draw as West Texas A&M added their second conference point.
Top Lady Buffs
- Franciezca Blancaflor came away with a three save shutout in goal. This was her third shutout of the season and with that took sole possession of 10th place in career shutouts at WT with six. Blancaflor is one shutout from passing Sarah Anderson (2004-05) for ninth all-time.
- Sienna Hurrell played all 90 minutes and fired four shots with three landing on goal. This was Hurrell's first game logging 90 minutes as she produced a season best in shots and shots on goal.
- Braely Martinez landed all three of her shots on goal as she played 77 minutes. Her three shots tied a season-best mark while her three shots on goal where a new season-high.
Buffalo Bits
- West Texas A&M is now 2-0-1 all-time against Sul Ross State.
- The Lady Buffs led the game in shots (21-4), shots on goal (13-3), and corner kicks (5-1).
- This was WT's third shutout of the season.
- Jade Martinez registered four shots with one landing on goal in 46 minutes. This was a new season-best in shots for Martinez.
- Charo Rodriguez Fortea compiled two shots on goal as she played all 90 minutes. This was Rodriguez Fortea's second game with 2+ shots on goal and second game logging 90 minutes.
- Ryann Davis went the distance for the seventh time this season as she played all 90 minutes.
- Riley Sims, Mollie Ferro, Michelle Velasco, and Avery Putnam all landed one shot on goal. Ferro would lead the bunch with 76 minutes.
- Sara Soto and Samantha Solorzano played 84 and 79 minutes respectively. Soto added two shots while Solorzano produced one.
- Naya Megnin compiled one shot in 16 minutes.
