CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M freshman
Emiliia Tangara broke her own school record in the women's 400m hurdles on Friday evening to highlight the Michael Johnson Invitational at the Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium in Waco.
Blessing Akintoye continued her impressive campaign in the 200m finals with a time of 23.44 for the 10
th fastest time in outdoor program history. Akintoye would follow that up with a mark of 52.78 in the 400m, the third best mark in DII this season and the sixth best in WT history to finish second overall.
Sandra Appiah (54.22) and
Asana Hamidu (54.83) hit provisional marks in the 400m.
Esther Conde-Turpin claimed an 11
th place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.14m while the senior also placed 15
th in the 400m hurdles (1:04.03) and third in the javelin (43.33m).
Tangara broke her own school record in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 56.20 for the fastest time in Division II so far this season. Tangara was the only Division II competitor inside the Top-10.
The Lady Buff 4x100m relay squad of Conde-Turpin, Acheampong,
Priscilla Anaglo and Akintoye hit a provisional mark of 45.00 while the 4x400m relay team of Appiah,
Abigail Abugire, Hamidu and Akintoye registered the third fastest time in the country (3:39.36).
The Buffs impressed in the 100m finals with two runners inside the Top-10,
Isaac Botsio's 10.09 is the fourth fastest time in DII this season as he finished second overall followed by
James Dadzie in sixth (10.20). Dadzie would follow that up with a runner-up finish in the 200m with a time of 20.88.
Emeka Nmesirionye registered a seventh-place finish in the men's high jump with a mark of 2.01m.
Fran Bonifacic tallied a mark of 4.76m in the pole vault to finish 13
th overall while
Mahmoud Ibrahim's toss of 16.72m in the men's shot put placed him third overall.
The 4x100m relay squad of
Jace Lynch, Dadzie,
Kareem Small and Botsio registered the second fastest time in Division II this season and the fourth best in outdoor program history (39.20) to finish second overall.
West Texas A&M turns their attention to the defense of their Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 7-9 hosted in Canyon.
