11 Event Crowns Highlight the West Texas Relays

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M Track & Field began their outdoor season in style on Friday and Saturday as they claimed 11 different event championships during the West Texas Relays at the WTAMU Track & Field Complex in Canyon.
 
The Buffs and Lady Buffs will compete in Lubbock, Texas and Raleigh, North Carolina next weekend as they will feature entries in both the Masked Rider Open and the Raleigh Relays.
 
Men's Recap
Isaac Botsio started off his outdoor season in style, tying the ninth fastest 100m time in school history (10.06) to win the event with the best mark in DII. Kareem Small would finish fourth with a time of 10.39, the ninth best mark in DII so far this season.
 
Jeremiah Bonano impressed for the Buffs as the junior won the long jump with a mark of 7.04m on his final attempt to go along with a 1.90m result in the high jump to finish second overall. Brandon Drakeford would claim the event crown in the triple jump (13.85m) along with a fourth-place finish in the high jump (1.85m).
 
Mahmoud Ibrahim tallied the eight best outdoor shot put mark (17.52m) in program history and the fourth best mark in DII this season to win the event to go along with a third-place finish in the discus (43.29m). NCAA Indoor National Champion in the Heptathlon Fran Bonifacic finished fourth in the discus (42.02m) while Cecil Dosoo was the runner-up in the long jump (6.87m).
 
Raphael Gomis registered a mark of 14.40 to finish second in the 110m hurdles followed by Brayden Cervantes in fourth (15.15). Adrian Solis was impressive in the 1,500m with at time of 4:03.54 to finish third with Maximilian Kremser running a 48.12 in the 400m to finish fourth overall.
 
Women's Recap
Deborah Acheampong continued her success from the indoor season as the Ghana product ran a 11.30 in the 100m, winning the event while registering the second fastest time in program history and the best mark in DII. She would follow that up with a win in the 200m (23.98).
 
Sandra Appiah would register a win in the 400m with a time of 54.58 for the fourth fastest time in DII so far this season. The freshman would also finish second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.61 which ranks seventh on WT's all-time outdoor list. 
 
Taylor Gonzalez claimed a runner-up finish in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.35 while Isabella Celis impressed in the 1,500m with a time of 4:57.51 to finish second overall. 
 
Kailee Benton registered a mark of 5.98m to win the women's long jump as the Amarillo product also finished fifth in the 100m hurdles (14.80) and ninth in the 200m (25.60). Nicole Czerwinski would finish fourth in the long jump (5.43m) and fifth in the triple jump (10.81m). The WT 4x100m relay squad of Priscilla Anaglo, Acheampong, Helena Klutsey-Carboo and Blessing Akintoye ran a 46.59 to finish second overall.
 
Hope Gray picked up a victory in the hammer throw with a mark of 56.62m on her final attempt while Kedan Burch won the discus (46.53m) on Friday night followed by a third-place finish in the shot put (12.51m) and a fifth-place finish in the hammer (40.37m). Abigail Provost would register a mark of 46.39m for a runner-up performance in the hammer and a fifth-place finish in the discus (39.19m).
