CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M return to the WTAMU Fieldhouse this weekend as they continue Lone Star Conference action with matchups against Western New Mexico and Sul Ross State at The Box in Canyon.
 
WESTERN NEW MEXICO
The Mustangs enter the weekend riding a three-match win streak as they are 11-7 overall with a 5-2 mark in Lone Star Conference action. WNMU claimed a four-set win over previously league unbeaten DBU on Thursday night in Silver City followed by a five-set win over Texas Woman's on Saturday Night at Drag's Court.
 
Daphne Postumus leads the way offensively for the Mustangs as the reigning LSC Defensive Player of the Week has 166 kills on 375 swings with 51 errors for an attack percentage of .307 to go along with five assists, two aces, 34 digs and 81 total blocks. The Netherlands native ranks eighth in DII Volleyball in blocks (81) and 13th in blocks per set (1.25). 
 
Hannah Haggard and Savanna Haefs guide the WNMU offense as the pair of setters have combined for 538 assists. Brynlee Barris (144), Jayden Hughes (118) and Jade Rampton (103) all join Posthumus with over 100 kills on the year. Western New Mexico ranks eighth nationally in total team blocks (159.0) while also sitting 13th in blocks per set (2.45). 
 
WNMU HEAD COACH GENO FRUGOLI
Geno Frugoli is in his fourth season at the helm of the Western New Mexico volleyball program, he came to Silver City following three seasons as the head coach at Seward County CC where he led the Lady Saints to the NJCAA Region VI Championship in 2022.
 
Frugoli has 18-years of collegiate coaching experience with over 9 years at the NCAA Division I level. He got his start at the collegiate level as the Head Coach for Dakota Wesleyan with stops at Baylor, Missouri-Kansas City, Southeastern Louisiana, North Texas and Peru State College.
 
A LOOK AT THE SERIES
The Lady Buffs and Mustangs will take the court on Friday for the 245th time as WT holds a 21-3 advantage in the series that dates back to 1981. The Lady Buffs have won 10 straight against the Mustangs and Western New Mexico is just 0-10 all-time at the WTAMU Fieldhouse. Last season saw WT sweep past the Mustangs in Silver City as WT hit .262 as a team on the night with Emma Becker leading the way offensively with 15 kills.
 
SUL ROSS STATE
The Lobos enter the weekend with an overall record of 0-17 as they are 0-7 in Lone Star Conference action. Sul Ross State looks to snap the nation's second-longest losing streak (27 matches) that dates back to October 18th of last season.
 
Antyiahna Lang leads the way offensively for the Lobos as the freshman from Brenham, Texas has registered 140 kills on 365 swings with 50 attack errors to hit .247 on the year to go along with one assist, one service ace, 18 digs and 16 total blocks to average 2.66 points per set. 
 
Mia Esponoza paces the SRSU offense with 215 assists to average 3.91 per set as the El Paso product has registered six service aces and 100 digs (1.82/set). Emily Scott leads the way in the back row with a team-high 107 digs and a reception percentage of .936.
 
SRSU HEAD COACH HOLLIE KING
Hollie King is in her first season leading the Sul Ross State volleyball program, taking over the Lobos on March 16, 2026. She spent the previous two seasons as the head coach at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. 
 
The Dallas native spent time as an assistant coach at Dallas Christian College, helping the Crusaders to a playoff appearance during her first season on the sideline. King's volleyball coaching experience also includes the high school and club level as she founded A+ Athletics in 2020. 
 
A LOOK AT THE SERIES
Saturday afternoon will mark the 13th all-time meeting on the court between the Lady Buffs and Lobos. 2024 marked the first meeting between the two teams in 41 years (October 7, 1983). WT is a perfect 13-0 all-time in the series including 4-0 inside of the WTAMU Fieldhouse. Last season saw the Lady Buffs sweep past SRSU in Alpine as Emma Becker led the way with 12 kills followed by Kaycee Cavanaugh with eight and Currie Marusak with six.
 
LONE STAR CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL
Defending league champion Angelo State claimed 41 of the possible 54 first place votes to sit atop of the poll with 951 points followed by WT (seven first place, 883), Lubbock Christian (three first place, 837), UT Tyler (778) and St. Mary's (one first place, 698) to round out the top five.
 
Texas Woman's sits sixth followed by Oklahoma Christian, Texas A&M-Kingsville, DBU, Midwestern State, St. Edward's, UT Permian Basin, UT Dallas, Western New Mexico, Texas A&M International, Cameron and Eastern New Mexico.
 
THE GAMBLE ERA
Terry Gamble became the sixth head coach in WT history to lead the Lady Buffs to the NCAA Tournament during their inaugural season at the helm in 2025. The Three-time National Champion and NJCAA Hall of Famer was named the 17th head coach in Lady Buff Volleyball history on February 4, 2025. 
 
Gamble has compiled a career record of 1,130-363 (.759) as he was just the third head coach in NJCAA history to reach 1,000 career wins on October 15, 2024. Gamble came to Canyon following seven seasons at Blinn College. He was inducted into the NJCAA Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2007 after winning three NJCAA volleyball championships (2000, 2004, 2006) and three NJCAA Coach of the Year awards.
