CANYON, Texas – The #16 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M look to rebound on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Wichita Falls, Texas to take on the Midwestern State Mustangs with tipoff set for 3:00 p.m. at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN REWIND
The Buffaloes struggled offensively on Thursday night as they fell in Lone Star Conference road action to the #5 Lubbock Christian Chaps at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock, Texas.
Fontaine Williams Jr. scored 22 points, including four 3-pointers, and collected three rebounds. Jaylin Sledge posted 11 points, connecting on five of 10 field goal attempts, while adding nine rebounds.
Brock Mishak recorded two steals and two assists during the game.
James Parlow Jr. also contributed with two steals and two points.

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
Midwestern State enters the weekend with an overall record of 4-10 with a 2-5 mark in league action as they look to snap a seven-game losing skid. The Mustangs are 4-3 inside of D.L. Ligon Coliseum this season with home wins over UCCS, Dallas Christian, Angelo State and UT Permian Basin.

Thursday night saw the Mustangs struggle from the floor to start the game as they trailed Eastern New Mexico 41-20 at the half on their way to a 84-60 loss in Wichita Falls. Jonathan Jackson led the way for MSU, going 4-of-8 from behind the arc and 2-of-2 from the free throw line for a team-best 14 points to go along with a pair of steals and a rebound.

Charles McClennahan Jr. leads the way offensively for the Mustangs as the senior forward from Winston Salem, North Carolina has gone 52-of-115 (45.2%) from the floor including 7-of-26 (26.9%) from deep and 16-of-31 (51.6%) from the free throw line to average 10.6 points per game to go along with 67 rebounds, 10 assists, four steals and a block.

MSU HEAD COACH JON TRILLI
Jon Trilli was named the 11th head coach in Midwestern State men's basketball history on May 23, 2025. Trilli came to Wichita Falls following five seasons as an assistant coach at Abilene Christian, helping the Wildcats to a pair of NCAA Tournament trips including a Southland Conference Tournament Championship.

Trilli started his collegiate playing career at Garden City Community College before spending his final two seasons at Midwestern State, helping the Mustangs to a pair of NCAA Division II Elite Eight appearances in 2010 and 2011. Trilli then spent the next four seasons on the MSU coaching staff followed by coaching stops at Arkansas-Little Rock, North Texas, Odessa College and Abilene Christian.

THE SERIES
Saturday afternoon marks the 85th all-time meeting on the hardwood between the Buffs and Mustangs in a series that dates back to 1947. West Texas A&M is 48-36 in the series including 12-24 all-time in Wichita Falls. Last season saw the Mustangs claim both regular season matchups before WT responded with a victory in the LSC Quarterfinals in Frisco.

The last meeting saw the Buffs trail 34-26 headed into the locker room for halftime before outscoring the Mustangs 44-23 in the second half on their way to a 70-57 victory at the Comerica Center in Frisco.
Ahamed Mohammed led the way for WT, going 9-of-16 from the floor including 4-of-6 from behind the arc for a game-high 25 points followed by
Narit Chotikavanic (18) and
Noah Pagotto (17) in double-figures.

WT HEAD COACH TOM BROWN
Tom Brown, now in his 12th season at the helm of the West Texas A&M men's basketball program, has built the Buffs into one of the elite NCAA Division II programs in the nation.  He has guided WT to nine consecutive NCAA Tournaments including the Buffs first-ever NCAA Division II National Championship game in 2021.Â

Brown was hired as the 17th head coach in program history on April 16, 2014. In the past 10 seasons, Coach Brown and his staff are 279-66 (.810) and an average of 27 wins a season with appearances in the Sweet 16, Elite Eight, Final Four (2) and National Title game. During his time in Canyon, Brown is 299-79 (.792) overall and 160-45 (.782) in league action.Â

LSC PRESEASON POLL
Defending Regional Champion Dallas Baptist claimed 42 of the possible 51 first place votes for a total of 850 points to sit atop of the poll followed by St. Mary's (two first place, 724), Lubbock Christian (four first place, 720), St. Edward's (669) and West Texas A&M (two first place, 654) to round out the top five.

Angelo State and Eastern New Mexico tied for sixth with 592 points followed by Midwestern State (558), UT Permian Basin (468), Texas A&M International (one first place, 350), Texas A&M-Kingsville (330), Cameron (301), Oklahoma Christian (266), UT Tyler (260), Western New Mexico (193), UT Dallas (188) and Sul Ross State (88).

NABC DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL
The Buffaloes are ranked 16th in this week's edition of the National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) Division II Top-25 Poll announced on Tuesday afternoon. The South Central Region is represented by Lubbock Christian (5th), Black Hill State (15th), West Texas A&M (16th), St. Edward's (18th), Eastern New Mexico (24th), Dallas Baptist (25th) and St. Mary's (RV).

West Texas A&M junior guard
Brock Mishak averaged 20 points, eight rebounds and 6.5 assists to lead the No. 20-ranked Buffs to a pair of top-25 conference wins against No. 17 St. Edward's and No. 23 St. Mary's.Â

Mishak shot 50 percent from the field, made 11 of 13 free-throw attempts and added one block. He scored a career-high 21 points against SEU and dished out a career-high nine assists against StMU. Mishak's play has helped WT win three games in a row and four of its last five. He has scored in double figures and had at least four assists in all of those games.
