CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M men's soccer plays their final two non-conference games of the season this weekend against Simon Fraser and Saint Martin's at the Toyota Soccer Center in Frisco, Texas during an LSC/GNAC crossover event.

The Buffaloes found their offensive rhythm last Saturday in Canyon as they converted a pair of penalty kick opportunities on their way to a 4-0 shutout win over the Cougars of Colorado Christian.

D'Jonte Davis was named the LSC Offensive Player of the Week following an impressive performance against CCU. Davis scored a pair of goals to go along with an assist in the win.

A LOOK AT THE RED LEAFS
Simon Fraser enters the weekend with an overall record of 0-4-2 as they have dropped their last four contests. SFU was on the road in Colorado last week as they fell to then #9 Fort Lewis (2-1) and Colorado Mesa (4-3). The Red Leafs are bases out of Burnaby, British Columbia and compete in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

The Red Leafs are led offensively by Koji Poon as the junior forward from Vancouver, British Columbia has scored three goals on 10 shots with six of those coming on goal, Poon has seen time in 341 minutes on the pitch so far this season for SFU.

SFU HEAD COACH CLINT SCHNEIDER
Clint Schneider took over as head coach of the Simon Fraser University men's soccer program on February 10, 2015 after spending five seasons as the lead assistant for the Red Leafs. Since then, the Red Leafs have won 83 games, lost 29 and tied 15 overall. SFU holds a 58-16-10 record (.750) in Great Northwest Athletic Conference contests with Schneider as head coach. He is the GNAC leader in career winning percentage and team titles amongst the league's active coaches.

A LOOK AT THE SAINTS
The Saints enter the weekend with an overall record of 0-6 after losing a pair of contests in Humboldt, California last week to Cal Poly Humboldt (2-0) and CSU-Pueblo (5-0). SMU has been outscored 20-2 so far this season, the Saints are based out of Lacey, Washington and are a member of the GNAC.

Cole Sullivan and Jonathan Wright have scored goals for the Saints this season with Paul Lopez contributing a pair of assists to tie for the team lead with two points. Sullivan is a junior forward from Ellensburg, Washington that leads SMU with 11 shots, five of them coming on goal in the first six games of the season.

SMU HEAD COACH ROB WALKER
The 2025 season is Rob Walker's 19th season as the head men's soccer coach at Saint Martin's University. He began both men's and women's programs at the club level in 2006 before the two squads officially joined the GNAC in 2007. Walker became the full-time men's coach in 2017. Walker led the Saints to the GNAC Championship in 2009.

WT HEAD COACH BUTCH LAUFFER
Butch Lauffer is now in his 35th season as head men's soccer coach at West Texas A&M. Lauffer is the longest tenured head coach in WT history in a storied career dating back to 1991. Lauffer reached the 500-win plateau on Sept. 30, 2017 with a dominating 13-2 win over UT Permian Basin.Â

During his tenure, Lauffer coached the men to 31 consecutive non-losing seasons from 1993 to 2023 and the women to 12-plus victories in 12 seasons. Lauffer has recorded a 382-178-59 (.665) record at the helm of the Buffs with a 572-245-75 (.683) overall record at WT.

West Texas A&M was picked fifth in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Midwestern State claimed 16 of the possible 33 first place votes for 338 points to sit atop of the poll followed by St. Mary's (13 first place, 331), St. Edward's (three first place, 297), DBU (241), West Texas A&M (239), Lubbock Christian (169), UT Tyler (161), Oklahoma Christian (134), UT Dallas (104), Texas A&M International (one first place, 86) and Sul Ross State (78).

Arthur Souza of St. Edward's was tabbed the league's Preseason Player of the Year while Luke Mulkey and Johnny Thurbin from St. Mary's claimed Defensive and Goalkeeper Preseason Honors.
