CANYON, Texas – The #12 Lady Buffs continue their homestand as they open up Lone Star Conference play on Thursday night, hosting the Oklahoma Christian Lady Eagles at the First United Bank Center with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. in Canyon.

NEW MEXICO HIGHLANDS REWIND
The then #13 Lady Buffs ran their win streak to six games on Saturday afternoon as they rolled past the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls, 84-57 to conclude the WT Thanksgiving Classic.
Kyla Kane led with 18 points, including three 3-pointers and two steals.
Randi Harding added 15 points, converting seven of her 12 shot attempts and contributing two assists.
Henley West recorded 10 points and was strong defensively with three blocks and eight rebounds.

SCOUTING THE LADY EAGLES
Oklahoma Christian enters the weekend with an overall record of 4-2 with LSC action beginning on Thursday in Canyon. the Lady Eagles are a perfect 4-0 at home so far this season with their two losses coming on the road at Newman (66-64) and East Central (79-56). OC picked up a big 92-52 win over Dallas Christian on Monday night in Edmond.

Kenzie Willis leads the way offensively for the Lady Eagles as the junior forward from Sulphur Springs, Texas has gone 27-of-75 (36%) from the floor including 6-of-21 (28.6%) from deep and 16-of-22 (72.7%) from the free throw line to average 12.7 points per game to go along with 23 rebounds, five assists and 10 steals.Â

Oklahoma Christian finished the 2024-25 campaign with an overall mark of 10-16 including a 7-15 record in LSC play to miss the conference tournament. The 10 victories by the Lady Eagles were the most since the 2018-19 campaign. OC returns six players from last year's squad, including five seniors and/or graduate students. Headlining the returners is Taylor Jackson, who scored double digits in nine of her 10 appearances before missing the rest of the year due to injury. The senior from McKinney has averaged 10.2 points and 6.0 rebounds so far this season for the Lady Eagles.

OC HEAD COACH MARKEITH BROWN
Markeith Brown is now in his fourth season at the helm of the Oklahoma Christian women's basketball program after being named OC's third head coach on April 21, 2022. He holds an overall record of 28-56 during his time in Edmond.

Brown spent the previous seven seasons as the top assistant at former LSC foe Texas A&M-Commerce. The Lions went 143-57 during his time in Commerce with four NCAA Tournament trips. Brown was named the NCAA Division II World Exposure Women's Assistant Coach of the Year in March 2020.

THE SERIES
Saturday afternoon marks the eighth all-time meeting on the hardwood between the Lady Buffs and Eagles. WT is 6-1 in the series that dates back to 2014. The Lady Eagles are 0-4 all-time inside of the First United Bank Center with their last trip to Canyon coming in December of 2024.

Last year's matchup saw the Lady Buffs claim a dominating 86-66 win in Canyon.
Randi Harding led the way offensively for WT going 8-of-12 from the floor including 2-of-5 from behind the arc for a game-high 20 points to go along with four boards, four assists and two steals. Kyle Kane finished with 16 points followed by
Taylor Haggan with a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds).

WT HEAD COACH JOSH PROCK
Josh Prock is now in his fifth season at the helm of the Lady Buff Basketball program. The Lady Buffs made the program's 29th appearance in the NCAA Division II Postseason during the 2024-25 campaign as they went 19-13 overall with a 12-10 mark in the LSC. The Lady Buffs advanced to the South Central Regional Semifinals.

Prock was introduced as West Texas A&M's head women's basketball coach on June, 2, 2021. Prock is no stranger to the Lone Star Conference as he spent eight seasons as the head coach at Eastern New Mexico leading the Greyhounds to their only three NCAA Tournament appearances in program history.

West Texas A&M is home to one of the finest multi-purpose facilities in the country as the First United Bank Center has served as the home of the Lady Buffs since January 26, 2002. The Lady Buffs are a staggering 293-47 inside of the FUBC during that time for a winning clip of 86.6%. WT has averaged 1,035 fans per contest since the facility opened its doors with the largest crowd coming on Opening Night with 4,941 members of Buff Nation seeing the Lady Buffs take on rival Abilene Christian.

LSC PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR
West Texas A&M senior guard
Kyla Kane was tabbed the Lone Star Conference Preseason Player of the Year announced on Monday, October 20th. The 5-foot-10 native of Wellington, Texas, averaged 13.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. She shot 89.8 percent from the free throw line and made 56 3-pointers. She was a second team all-LSC selection.

LSC PRESEASON POLL
The Lady Buffs were selected fourth in the 2025 LSC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Defending Regional Champion Texas Woman's claimed 20 of the possible 51 first place votes to sit atop of the poll with 810 points followed by Lubbock Christian (14 first place, 776), UT Tyler (eight first place, 761), West Texas A&M (six first place, 663) and Eastern New Mexico (two first place, 657) to round out the top five. Angelo State (656) sits sixth followed by Texas A&M-Kingsville (564), UT Permian Basin (466), Midwestern State (461), St. Mary's (438), St. Edward's (363), Oklahoma Christian (310), Cameron (262), Texas A&M International (one first place, 210), UT Dallas (168), Western New Mexico (161) and Sul Ross State (77).

Karley Motschenbacher returns to the Lady Buffs for her final season of eligibility in 2025-26 after a season away from the court. The Moorehead, Minnesota product is a three-time All-Lone Star Conference honoree as she has seen time in 95 games with 89 starts for the Lady Buffs, averaging 32.2 minutes per contest. She scored her 1,000th career point back on January 20, 2024 at Eastern New Mexico and is just the 25th player in WT history to score 1,000 points as a Lady Buff.
