#19 Lady Buffs Leave Colorado Springs with a Regional Win, 82-71

CANYON, Texas - The #19 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M ran their win streak to four games on Thursday night as they picked up a 82-71 regional road victory over the UCCS Mountain Lions at Gallogly Events Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
 
WT initiated play with defensive pressure, as Karley Motschenbacher secured an early steal leading to a jumper and subsequent 3-pointer by Taylor Haggan, establishing a quick 5–0 lead. UCCS responded with a series of successful shots, keeping the score tight. Motschenbacher was instrumental, contributing with a layup off an offensive rebound to regain a slight edge.
 
As the quarter progressed, both teams exchanged leads, showcasing balanced scoring efforts. Although UCCS managed a late surge with a fastbreak 3-pointer by Ellie Reynolds, the Lady Buffs maintained their composure, with Randi Harding's layup providing a brief advantage. However, UCCS closed the quarter with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer, leaving the Lady Buffs trailing 22–21 at the end of the first quarter.
 
In the second quarter, the Lady Buffs maintained momentum, quickly extending their lead with a 3-pointer by Harding at 9:04, assisted by Haggan. This set off a series of efficient plays, including a fast break layup by Taytum Bell and another layup by Haggan, pushing the score to 28–22 in favor of the Lady Buffs.
 
The visitors continued to control the pace, capitalizing on turnovers and defensive stops. Motschenbacher's layup at 3:39, followed by a successful free throw, expanded the lead to 37–28. Kenadee Winfrey further extended the difference with a 3-pointer at 2:57.
 
As the quarter closed, the Lady Buffs maintained their offensive edge with a 3-pointer from Kyla Kane at 1:02, finishing the quarter with a 45–37 lead. The visitors outscored UCCS 24–15 during the quarter, demonstrating solid defensive and offensive execution.
 
The third quarter marked a decisive momentum shift for the Lady Buffs, outscoring UCCS 21-12. The visiting team capitalized on fast breaks, tallying 10 points from quick transitions. Claire Graham's three-pointer at 6:03 extended the lead, supported by Motschenbacher's assist, marking a critical juncture in the frame.
 
The Lady Buffs dominated the paint, scoring 12 points inside, while also securing 15 rebounds to control the boards. Despite some turnovers, the visitors maintained their lead through efficient scoring, highlighted by Winfrey's fast-break layup at 2:51. The quarter concluded with the Lady Buffs extending their advantage to a 66-49 lead over UCCS.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Buffs faced a strong challenge from UCCS, who opened with a pair of early 3-pointers, cutting the deficit. Motschenbacher and Kane responded by securing key points from the free-throw line, maintaining the lead. Despite UCCS scoring efficiently from the field, the Lady Buffs capitalized on turnovers and free throws, with Kane adding crucial points late in the quarter. The Lady Buffs showcased a resilient defense, with key blocks from Kane, while Bell contributed with important rebounds. The quarter closed with the Buffs extending their lead, finishing ahead 82–71.
 
Kane led the performance with 15 points and three blocks, converting 8 of 10 free throws. Motschenbacher posted 17 points and collected nine rebounds, along with four assists. Haggan contributed with 10 rebounds, including nine defensive boards, and scored nine points. Bell added 14 points and recorded two steals, finishing with eight rebounds.
 
The Lady Buffs return to the First United Bank Center on November 28-29 as they host the WT Thanksgiving Classic with matchups against Adams State and New Mexico Highlands in Canyon.
