CANYON, Texas – In the last home meet of the 2024 outdoor season, West Texas A&M Buffs and Lady Buffs finished the Buffalo Invitation with 28 personal bests across 17 events with freshman
Deborah Acheampong setting the school record in the 200-meter race.
SETTING RECORDS
Deborah Acheampong, of Eastern Region, Ghana, ran the fastest wind legal 200-meter to set the WT school record at 23.30. Earlier this season, Acheampong ran a wind +2.8 time of 23.09 behind teammate
Corrssia Perrys' 23.06. The NCAA allows wind aided +2.9 so their times stand as the 3
rd and 2
nd fastest this season.
PERSONAL BESTS
Senior
Joey Zimmerman made WT Top-10 in the pole vault with her height of 3.65m. This is the first time a Lady Buff has made the top-10 in school history since 2017. Joining in the top-10 in freshman
Sarah Koomson who ran the third fastest time in the 1500-meter at 4 minutes, 26 seconds. Koomson ranks 9
th fastest time in NCAA Division II this season and the only Lady Buff in the top-20 nationally in the event.
For the Buffs,
Aziz Mohammed finished second in the 1500-meter in 3 minutes, 44 seconds. He became the second fastest in WT history and ranks fourth in NCAA DII this season.
William Amponsah took first in the 5,000-meter in 14 minutes flat. He ran the second fastest time in WT history and hit an NCAA DII provisional mark.
The Lady Buffs 4x400 relay comprised of
Corrssia Perry,
Jordan Brown,
Sherifatu Sheriff and
Blessing Akintoye ran the second fastest WT time in 3 minutes, 40 seconds and became the sixth fastest relay this season.
COMING UP
The No. 4 Buffs and No. 3 Lady Buffs will travel to Texas Tech University to compete in the two-day Corky/Crofoot Shootout at the Fuller Track and Field Stadium.
