AZUZA, CA - The West Texas A&M Track and Field distance team ran from sun up to sun down for day two of the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azuza, California. The second day of competition started at 7:00 a.m. PDT and finished at 8:56 p.m. PDT. Three runners finished with personal bests including first place finisher
Betty Bajika.
FINISHING FIRST
Bajika, a junior from Arlington, Texas, ran a personal best time of 16 minutes, 23 seconds to claim first in the women's 5,000-meter open. Bajika etched her name in the third fastest mark in WT Top-10 history and claimed three best marks in the event. Currently, Bajiksa ranks fifth in NCAA Division II provisional marks in the event. She took first out of 32 opponents.
PERSONAL BESTS
Starting the day with a personal best was junior
Adrian Legarreta at 7:00 a.m. PDT (9:00 a.m. CT). Legarreta ran his 10,000-meter heat in 29 minutes, 43 seconds to claim fifth out of 46 competitors. This was Legarreta's first time breaking 29 minutes in the event.
Enrico Oddone finished the night with his heat in the 5,000-meter race ending past 9:00 p.m. PDT (11:00 p.m. CT) at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Oddone's time was 14 mnutes, 1 second as he was barely on the cusp of being the second Buff to break 13 minutes in the event. Oddone improved over 13 seconds in his time and now holds the second best WT Top-10 time behind teammate
Harry Louradour.
NOTEABLES
Olivia McLain ran the 10,000-meter early in the morning and just ran under her personal best at 36 minutes, 47 seconds but managed the 10
th best time in WT Top-10 history. She finished 22
nd overall out of 49 opponenets with some being from Texas Tech, Hawaii and UC San Diego.
Raquel Chavez ran her 800-meter mid-distance race in 2 minutes, 12 seconds to etch her name once again in WT Top-10 at the tenth fastest.
Prince Mcabelo finished in the top-100 of the men's 800-meter invite and freshman
Sarah Koomson ran the 7
th fastest WT time in the 5,000-meter. Koomson is the only freshman competing this weekend for WT.
COMING UP
The final day of competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational will start at 9:30 a.m. CT with
Jay Hall in the 5,000-meter as the only morning runner. Following Hall will be
Kalkidan Vincendeaux at 7:50 p.m. CT in the 1500-meter. The Buffs and Lady Buffs will finish out with four more 1500-meter races through 1:00 a.m. CT that morning.
Calvin Allen will be taking the last late run for the Buffs.
