LUBBOCK, Texas – The West Texas A&M Track and Field throwers earned two personal bests and a first place finish for junior
Luke Holcombe at the Masked Rider Open hosted by Texas Tech from March 22-23.
In the windy ring two Lady Buffs,
Meadow Gallentine and Hopr Gray, threw for their personal bests in the hammer finishing at 48.40m (Gallentine) and 45.02m (Gray). Both finished in the top-nine of the competition with Gallentine leading in third place, Gray in eighth and teammate
Jada Sewell in fourth (48.31m). Gallentine reached her best throw on her second attempt, Sewell on her third attempt and Gray on her sixth and final attempt.
Luke Holcombe takes first as the only shot putter to hit over 17-meters. Holcombe threw 17.21m on his first attempt. He adds this distance to the eighth best throw in the shot put in the WT top-10. Teammates
Ethan Hollinshead and
Korbin Preston made the final top-nine with Hollinshead placing fifth (14.66m) and Preston lacing seventh (13.60m).
The Buffs threw the hammer with a lesser distance than last weekend at the WT Spring Break Open. Holcombe finished fifth throwing (49.70m). The Buffs are within reach of 40m with Hollinshead at 38.13m, Preston at 34.31m and Bentley at 32.5m.
