CANYON. Texas – The Buffs close out their home schedule on Saturday night as they welcome the Midwestern State Mustangs to Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium for an LSC showdown with kickoff set for 6:00 p.m. in Canyon.
 
TEXAS A&M-KINGSVILLE RECAP
The Buffaloes came up with big defensive stops that led to 14 unanswered fourth quarter points on Saturday night as West Texas A&M picked up a big Lone Star Conference victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville, 21-14 at Javelina Stadium.
 
LSC NEWS & NOTES
Sul Ross State, Angelo State, Western Oregon and West Texas A&M all earned victories in Week 9 of Lone Star Conference football. UT Permian Basin and Western New Mexico had a bye.
 
ASU (7-2 overall) extended its winning streak to seven games and stayed alone atop the LSC standings at 7-0. Western Oregon (6-3 overall) improved to 6-1 in league play. The two meet each other on Saturday (Nov. 9) at 3:05 p.m. CT at McArthur Field in Monmouth, Ore. ASU can secure the conference title with a win.
 
WEEK 10 MATCHUPS
Week 10 will feature five LSC matchups including a showdown that should decide the league championship in Oregon. Western New Mexico, Eastern New Mexico, West Texas A&M and Central Washington all hosts league contests on Saturday.

A LOOK AT THE MUSTANGS
The Mustangs enter Saturday night with an overall record of 3-6 with a 2-5 mark in Lone Star Conference play following a 21-16 loss to Western Oregon last week in Wichita Falls to extend the MSU losing skid to three games.
 
MSU managed just 231 yards of offense last Saturday with 72 of them coming on the ground in a 21-16 loss to Western Oregon. Matthew Duncan completed 10-of-22 passes for 85 yards and an interception, Matthew Duncan had 23 yards on the ground on 15 carries. Defensively, Larry Donnell led the way with 12 total tackles (nine solo) including a fumble recovery.
 
Devin Cross has carried the ball 78 times for 475 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the way on the ground for the Mustangs while four different quarterbacks have seen time in the backfield. Demonte Green has caught 20 passes for 381 yards and four scores while Donnell leads the way defensively as the senior from Mesquite has 60 tackles (44 solo) with two picks and three fumble recoveries.
 
MSU HEAD COACH RICH RENNER
Rich Renner is in his first season at the helm of the Midwestern State football program after serving as the Defensive Coordinator for the Mustangs since 2008. Renner has spent 18 years on staff at Midwestern State, being elevated to the 13th head coach in school history on December 10th.
 
Renner had mentored seven All-Americans, 23 All-Region selections, and 23 All-LSC First Team performers during his time in Wichita Falls. The Cincinnati native is no stranger to Canyon as he spent time as a linebackers and defensive line coach at WT from 2000-05. Renner played collegiately at the University of Louisville.
 
THE SERIES
The Buffs lead the all-time series 21-15 against the Mustangs dating back to the 1947 campaign. Midwestern State is 8-11 all-time in Canyon including 0-3 at Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium with those trips coming in 2019 (34-24), 2021 (15-12) and 2023 (23-0).
 
HEAD COACH JOSH LYNN
Josh Lynn is now in his second season at the helm of the West Texas A&M Football program after being named the 29th head coach in WT history.

Lynn, widely regarded as one of the nation's up-and-coming head coaches, came to Canyon following six seasons at the University of Nebraska-Kearney where he led the Lopers to an overall record of 35-25 including a run to the Second Round of the 2021 NCAA Division II Playoffs. Lynn coached 61 all-conference selections during his time in Kearney while being named the MIAA Coach of the Year in 2021.
 
WT FOOTBALL WEEKLY REPORT
West Texas A&M Athletics has partnered with Panhandle Sports Star 1029 FM ESPN along with The Lumberyard to present the West Texas A&M Football Weekly Report.
 
Host Lucas Kinsey will be joined by Josh Lynn along with student-athletes and assistant coaches in the one-hour show. The show, presented by The Lumberyard, will take place at Feldman's Wrong Way Diner (2100 N 2nd Ave.)
 
LIVE COVERAGE
Saturday's contest will be broadcasted on FloSports. The LSC and FloSports reached a historic agreement in August for the largest streaming rights deal in NCAA Division II history.

West Texas A&M is home to one of the most successful athletic programs in all of NCAA Division II.
 
The Buffs and Lady Buffs finished third in the 2023-24 Division II LEARFIELD Director's Cup standings. It marked the sixth straight and eighth overall time that WT finished inside of the Top-10 including the fifth straight inside of the Top-5.
