CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M Football has announced their 2026 football schedule highlighted by five home games at First United Field inside of Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium.
The Buffs made an appearance in the program's seventh bowl game in 2025 as they defeated Arkansas Tech in the Heritage Bowl Powered by Riot. WT finished the season riding a four-game win streak with an 8-4 overall record.
Josh Lynn guided the Buffs to the most victories in a season since 2021 as well as the most Lone Star Conference wins since 2012.
The 2026 season begins on Thursday, August 27
th as the Buffs host Western Colorado, the Mountaineers finished this past season 10-3 overall with a trip to the second round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs. WT hits the road on Thursday, September 3
rd as they travel to Allendale, Michigan to take on the Grand Valley State Lakers at Lubbers Stadium, marking the first trip to GVSU since 2013.
Lone Star Conference action opens on September 19
th as the Buffs travel to Angelo State followed by a home contest in Canyon against Midwestern State. WT makes the trip to South Texas on October 3
rd to take on the Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingsville before hosting UT Permian Basin on October 10
th, the Falcons made a run to the National Quarterfinals in 2025.
The 38
th Wagon Wheel Game takes place on October 17
th in Portales against the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds at Steve Loy Family Foundation Field. Homecoming 2026 happens on Saturday, October 24
th as the Mustangs of Western New Mexico make their way to Canyon.
The Buffs travel to Alpine to take on Sul Ross State on October 31
st followed by a long road trip to Western Oregon on November 7
th before closing out the regular season in Canyon on November 14
th against defending Lone Star Conference Champion Central Washington.
