CANYON. Texas – West Texas A&M's
William Amponsah remains atop of the Division II cross country mountain as the senior claimed his second straight NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championship on Saturday afternoon at Arcade Creek Cross Country Course in Sacramento, California.
The Agona Swedru, Ghana native ran a time of 29:40.8 over the 10K course to pick up a 5.1 second victory over Ryan Hartman of Augustana (29:45.9). Amponsah becomes the 14
th runner in DII history to win multiple individual crowns and the first since Tabor Stevens of Adams State in 2013 and 2014.
West Texas A&M becomes the 13
th program in Division II history to have multiple individual national champions to join: Abilene Christian (6), Adams State (6), North Dakota State (5), Edinboro (3), Emporia State (2), Western Colorado (2), Cal Poly (2), Lewis (2), Loras (2), South Dakota State (2), Texas A&M-Commerce (2) and UC Irvine (2).
The Buffaloes claimed a fourth-place finish for the second straight season as they had three runners inside of the Top-10 for a total of 138 points, the lowest point total in program history at the NCAA Championships.
Harry Louradour crossed the finish line in fifth with a time of 29:48.4 followed by Friona product
Adrian Legarreta in 10
th (29:55.3) and Amponsah, Louradour and Legarreta earned All-American honors.
Enrico Oddone finished 70
th (31:02.9) followed by
Matthys Bourse (76
th, 31:06.2),
Dennis Cheruiyot (148
th, 31:49.8) and

th, 34:56.4).
Colorado School of Mines claimed their fourth National Championship with a team total of 63 points followed by 2023 Champion Wingate (66 points), Adams State (113 points), West Texas A&M (138 points), Grand Valley State (171 points), Chico State (192 points), Pittsburg State (278 points), East Central (300 points), Western Colorado (300 points) and Northwest Missouri State (323 points) to round out the top-10.
The Buffs now turn their attention to indoor track & field season as they participate in the Boo Rogers Combined Events and the Crimson & Gold Invitational hosted by Pittsburg State on December 6-7.
