CANYON, Texas – The Buffs return to Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium on Saturday night for Lone Star Conference action as they welcome the Falcons of UT Permian Basin with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. at First United Field in Canyon.
 
ENMU RECAP
The Buffaloes scored 36 unanswered points on Saturday afternoon as they picked up a 42-24 Lone Star Conference victory over the rival Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds to win the 36th Wagon Wheel Game in Portales, New Mexico.
 
LSC NEWS & NOTES
West Texas A&M, Western Oregon, No. 21 Central Washington, Sul Ross State and Angelo State all earned victories in Week 7.
 
WOU and ASU now have five-game winning streaks and are tied atop the conference standings at 5-0.
 
Eastern New Mexico is producing 415 offensive yards per game, followed by CWU (407.3 ypg) and West Texas A&M (385.6 ypg). On the defensive side, CWU is allowing just 214.6 yards per game and has two shutouts.
 
WEEK 8 MATCHUPS
Week 8 will again feature all 10 teams and all Saturday games. Western New Mexico, Western Oregon, Angelo State, West Texas A&M and Central Washington will all host conference foes.

A LOOK AT THE FALCONS
The Falcons enter the weekend with an overall record of 4-4 with a 3-3 mark in Lone Star Conference action following a 30-27 overtime loss last Saturday night to Western Oregon. UTPB is 2-1 on the road this season with wins at Midwestern State (27-3) and Central Washington (14-13) while falling at CSU-Pueblo (40-23).
 
Isaac Mooring has started four games at quarterback for the Falcons, completing 37-of-75 passes for 451 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions. Kory Harris leads the way on the ground with 680 yards on 158 carries with five scores, Jeremiah Cooley has caught a team-best 28 passes for 363 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, Tristan Exline leads the way with 59 tackles (37 solo) with 11 of them coming for a loss with 4.5 sacks and a pick.
 
UTPB HEAD COACH KRIS McCULLOUGH
Kris McCullough is in his second season at the helm of the UT Permian Basin football program, being hired on December 22nd following one season as the head coach at East Central. 
 
The 2023 campaign saw the Falcons win the program's first LSC Championship as McCullough was named the league's Coach of the Year. UTPB made the NCAA postseason for the first time in school history, falling to Bemidji State (10-3) in Midland
 
THE SERIES
The Buffaloes hold a 5-2 advantage in the all-time series dating back to the 2016 season. The Falcons are 0-3 all-time in Canyon including 0-1 inside of Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium.
 
HEAD COACH JOSH LYNN
Josh Lynn is now in his second season at the helm of the West Texas A&M Football program after being named the 29th head coach in WT history.
 
Lynn is no stranger to the Wagon Wheel rivalry as he won a pair of games against the Buffs during his time as a tight end at ENMU (1999, 2000) followed by two wins as the head coach in Portales (2013, 2014).
 
Lynn, widely regarded as one of the nation's up-and-coming head coaches, came to Canyon following six seasons at the University of Nebraska-Kearney where he led the Lopers to an overall record of 35-25 including a run to the Second Round of the 2021 NCAA Division II Playoffs. Lynn coached 61 all-conference selections during his time in Kearney while being named the MIAA Coach of the Year in 2021.
 
WT FOOTBALL WEEKLY REPORT
West Texas A&M Athletics has partnered with Panhandle Sports Star 1029 FM ESPN along with The Lumberyard to present the West Texas A&M Football Weekly Report.
 
Host Lucas Kinsey will be joined by Josh Lynn along with student-athletes and assistant coaches in the one-hour show. The show, presented by The Lumberyard, will take place at Feldman's Wrong Way Diner (2100 N 2nd Ave.)
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
Central Washington picked up 20 of the possible 30 first place votes for a total of 286 points to sit atop of the poll followed by Angelo State (six first place, 260), defending LSC Champion UT Permian Basin (four first place, 244), Texas A&M-Kingsville (202), Midwestern State (153), West Texas A&M (149), Eastern New Mexico (128), Western Oregon (118), Western New Mexico (68) and Sul Ross State (42).

West Texas A&M is home to one of the most successful athletic programs in all of NCAA Division II.
 
The Buffs and Lady Buffs finished third in the 2023-24 Division II LEARFIELD Director's Cup standings. It marked the sixth straight and eighth overall time that WT finished inside of the Top-10 including the fifth straight inside of the Top-5.

FIRST UNITED FIELD
West Texas A&M Athletics and First United Bank joined in a naming rights agreement at the university's on-campus football stadium in 2023. Under the terms of the deal, all events at Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium over the next 10 years will be played on First United Field.
 
First United Bank will enjoy significant brand exposure with signage and logo placement throughout Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium, as well as broadcast, video and other marketing and advertising opportunities.
 
The on-campus football stadium, named the premiere stadium in all of Division II Athletics, was renamed for the families in 2022, following a $5 million combined gift to WT's historic, $125 million One West comprehensive fundraising campaign.
