West Texas A&M continued to struggle offensively as they fell to the Wolves of Western Oregon, 24-16 in Lone Star Conference action at McArthur Field in Monmouth, Oregon.

Western Oregon, Angelo State, Texas A&M-Kingsville and No. 11 Central Washington all earned Week 5 Lone Star Conference football wins and improved to 3-0 in league play. Sul Ross State and West Texas A&M had byes.

With their victories, TAMUK and CWU now have four-game winning streaks, while WOU and ASU have each won three straight.

WEEK 6 MATCHUPS
Week 6 will feature all 10 LSC teams in action on Saturday. Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville sit tied atop of the LSC standings as they battle in South Texas, Central Washington hosts defending LSC champion UTPB in a battle of the league's playoff contender from a year ago. Western Oregon, Midwestern State and West Texas A&M also hosts league action this week.

A LOOK AT THE MUSTANGS
The Mustangs enter the weekend with an overall record of 2-4 with an 0-4 mark in Lone Star Conference play. WNMU has dropped their last three games against Angelo State, Central Washington and Western Oregon. The Stangs are 1-2 so far this season on the road with the lone victory coming at Adams State (46-36) back on September 7th.

Josh Magana guides the Western New Mexico offense as the senior from Dinuba, California has completed 94-of-163 passes for 1,005 yards and three touchdowns to go along with a pair of interceptions. Jamon Chambers has carried the ball 86 times for 382 yards and five scores while Davey Morales leads the way for the receiving, catching 24 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Cole Laiama has 58 total tackles (42 solo) with a pair of them coming for a loss.

WNMU HEAD COACH BILLY HICKMAN
Billy Hickman is in his second season at the helm of the Western New Mexico football program after serving the 2022 campaign as the offensive coordinator in Silver City. Hickman played college football at Bakersfield College and Tabor College.Â

THE SERIES
The Buffs lead the all-time series against the Mustangs, 9-4 with WT winning last year's meeting, 49-27. The Mustangs are 2-6 all-time in Canyon including 0-3 at Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium.

HEAD COACH JOSH LYNN
Josh Lynn is now in his second season at the helm of the West Texas A&M Football program after being named the 29th head coach in WT history.

Lynn, widely regarded as one of the nation's up-and-coming head coaches, came to Canyon following six seasons at the University of Nebraska-Kearney where he led the Lopers to an overall record of 35-25 including a run to the Second Round of the 2021 NCAA Division II Playoffs. Lynn coached 61 all-conference selections during his time in Kearney while being named the MIAA Coach of the Year in 2021.

West Texas A&M Athletics has partnered with Panhandle Sports Star 1029 FM ESPN along with The Lumberyard to present the West Texas A&M Football Weekly Report.

Central Washington picked up 20 of the possible 30 first place votes for a total of 286 points to sit atop of the poll followed by Angelo State (six first place, 260), defending LSC Champion UT Permian Basin (four first place, 244), Texas A&M-Kingsville (202), Midwestern State (153), West Texas A&M (149), Eastern New Mexico (128), Western Oregon (118), Western New Mexico (68) and Sul Ross State (42).
