CANYON, TX- The Buffs of West Texas A&M Track and Field competed in Norman, Okla. at the Crimson Storm Invitational as well as the Dr. MLK Jr. Collegiate Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico that saw seven personal bests in events and wins for
Hamdi Ali and
Luke Holcombe in their respective events.
CRIMSON STORM INVITATIONAL
Hamdi Ali soared to 2.14m (7'0.5) to take first in high jump and became the fifth highest jump in indoor for WT history. Ali owns the top-5 highest WT indoor jumps and adds his first meet back this season to the record books.
Luke Holcombe keeps proving over again why he's in the top-25 in the nation in shot put, he currently holds the 5
th best throw this season in division II. Holcombe threw his second-best distance in his career tonight at 17.58m (57' 8) to take first at the meet and etch his name in WT history as the first- and second-best throw indoors.
Other field events saw success from
Cecil Dosoo in the long jump placing third (6.81m), with
Gerard Bryant taking third in high jump (1.95m) and freshman sprinter
Panjika Piyasiri placing seventh in the 60-meter finals out of 68 competitors with a final time of 6.98.
DR. MLK JR. COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL
Prince Mcabelo placed fifth as only one of two division II student-athlete in the top-5 out of 24 in the 800-meter race in Albuquerque. Mcabelo bested his own time to run in 1 minute, 51.9 seconds around the track 4 times in the race. He remains the third fastest 800-meter time in the nation this season behind Buff teammate
Aziz Mohammed.
Distance teammates
Louis Moreau placed fourth in the mile in 4 minutes, 11.1 seconds to become the ninth fastest Buff in WT history in the event.
Mattys Bourse made his debut finishing seventh overall with teammate
Harry Louradour taking 13
th place.
PERSONAL BESTS
The Buffs had 10 student-athletes with personal bests including
Prince Mcabelo. Following his lead is
Gerard Bryant with two personal bests in pole vault (4.10m) and shot put (14.29m);
Spencer Keys in pole vault (4.20m);
Jace Lynch in 60-meter (7.06) and throwers in shot put include
Korbin Preston (13.39m) and
Foster Bentley (13.35m).
