CANYON, Texas – The first USTFCCCA rankings for the 2023 outdoor track and field season have been released and the Buffs and Lady Buffs are ranked within the top fifteen.
The Lady Buffs start strong at third in the nation for the first rankings released. WT opens their season at the No. 3 position on the TFRI. The Buffs have 8 top-5 individual marks, in addition to a nation leading 4×100 relay (44.98c).
Brooke Urban leads in the national leaderboard in the high jump (1.71mA/5-7¼). The Lady Buffs features three top-10 marks in the 100 meters, led by
DeOndra Green (11.57c) in the No. 4 spot and
Leah Belfield (11.60c) in the No. 5 spot, alongside
Alana Wilson (11.74c) at No. 9.
The Buffs are starting at fifteenth in the nation. They have had great success with the 4X100 competition with two runs coming just under 40.0. The first competition run by
Desmond Aryee,
Jerry Jakpa,
Jalen Purcell and
Quinton Sansing came in at 39.97. The Buffs then ran at the Masked Rider Open with
Joseph Manu,
Jerry Jakpa,
Jalen Purcell and
Isaac Botsio to slice their time to 39.60.
The Buffs and Lady Buffs are looking forward to more competition as they take on some of the best in the nation at the Texas Relays held at The University of Texas at Austin in Austin, Texas from March 29-April 1.
