CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M allowed just 11 points in the first half and held St. Mary's to a 19.7% shooting percentage on Thursday night to pick up WT's 26
th consecutive home victories in a 48-34 Lone Star Conference decision over the Rattlers in front of over 1,000 fans on Pain the Floor Pink Night at the First United Bank Center.
The Lady Buffs used a balanced scoring attack on Thursday night as
Kyla Kane and
Azia Himeur finished the 11 points each followed by
Lauren Taylor with 10. Taylor finished the game with her second career double-double as the senior from Collierville, Tennessee went 4-of-14 from the floor including 2-of-2 from the charity stripe to go along with 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals.
WT finished the game going 17-of-50 (34%) from the field including 6-of-21 (28.6%) from deep and 8-of-13 (61.5%) from the free throw line to go along with 48 rebounds (13 offensive, 35 defensive), 11 assists, 19 turnovers, two blocks and six steals in the win.
Ariah Powell, Briley Perkins and Gabby Elliott paced the Hilltoppers offense as they registered seven points each. St. Edward's finished the night going 12-of-61 (19.7%) from the field including 3-of-22 (13.6%) from behind the arc and 7-of-10 (70%) from the free throw line with 39 rebounds (16 offensive, 33 defensive), five assists, 13 turnovers, one block and 11 steals.
The Lady Buffs close out their weekend homestand on Saturday afternoon as they welcome the St. Edward's Hilltoppers to Canyon with tipoff set for 1 p.m. on Senior Day at the FUBC.
