PITTSBURG, Kansas – West Texas A&M track & field got off to a strong start to the season at the Boo Rogers Combined Events in Pittsburg, Kansas on Friday afternoon.Â

Senior
Gerard Bryant led the West Texas A&M Buffs in the heptathlon with a fourth overall seeding after day one with 3,090 points with two second place finishes in the 60-meter (7.02) marking a personal best time and the shot put (13.94m) with another personal best mark. The Harker Height, Texas native was followed closely by teammate and newcomer
Romet Vahter who stayed in the Top-10 coming in 9
th with 2,834 points. Vahter shined in the high jump finishing sixth with a 1.93m height.
Allen Henderson found success in the high jump with a 1.99m height finishing the highest of the three Buffs in that event in third. Henderson is coming back to day two of tomorrows events in 13
th just 69 points from breaking into the top ten.Â

The Buffs will come back tomorrow to finish three events, the 60m Hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meter run to complete their first heptathlon of the season. The 60m hurdles event will be first with a start time of 9 a.m.
On the Lady Buffs side,
Elliot Harrison led the multi squad with 3,514 points in the pentathlon through five events to complete the first heptathlon of the season. Harrison shined in the high jump placing fifth with a height of 1.63m. Teammates
Laiten Greeson and freshman
Maryn Noble had strong showings in their respective events with Greeson finishing fifth in shot put for a throw of 10.85m and Noble finishing 13
th in the long jump with a distance of 5.10m.Â

The rest of the WT track & field squads will compete in Pittsburg State's Crimson & Gold Invitational tomorrow morning starting with the men's 5,000-meter run at 10:30 a.m. while the field events will begin at noon with the men's weight throw.Â
