CANYON, TX- The West Texas A&M Cross Country teams are both ranked as Top-6 programs in the nation in the last poll before NCAA Cross Country National Championships announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday afternoon.
This is the highest combined ranking for the Buffs and Lady Buffs since the inception of the WT cross country program in thirty years.
The No. 6 Buffs are moving up three spots after their performance at the NCAA South Central Regionals where they placed third as a team for an automatic qualification to the NCAA National Championships. Junior
William Amponsah won the individual title at the meet as he ran the second fastest 10,000 meter time (29:32.5) in NCAA South Central Regionals history.
The No. 6 Lady Buffs dropped one spot from the top-5 after placing fourth as a team at the NCAA South Central Regionals. Senior
Eleonora Curtabbi led the Lady Buffs with a second-place finish, the second year consecutively that she has finished second at regionals, with a time of 20:23.1. The Lady Buffs received an at-large bid to compete at the NCAA National Championships this season.
The Buffs and Lady Buffs are only one of two programs in the Lone Star Conference that are ranked nationally with Dallas Baptist women's team ranked at No. 23.
